Message Shirt Magic script has stopped working.

I tried to use Message Shirt Magic for the first time in a while yesterday, and the script is crashing on run, before the window comes up.

The error message is: "An error occurred while reading the file, see the log file for more details."

The relevant section of the log:

I'm on a Mac running MacOS 10.15.6. The error occurs both on Studio 4.22.0.1 and on older versions that I've kept on hand. I have not, to my knowledge, had any significant changes to my system since the last time I used the script successfully.

Does anyone have any idea what's causing this, or how to fix it?

The crash occurs long before I reach the point where I would have the chance to select a font.

I can confirm that I am getting this same error on my Mac also. I guess the encrypted scripts cannot be turned back into text so we can see exacatly what it's trying to do on line 636 :(

It seems to be working fine on Windows - although some of the inspiration presets seem to be corrupt (or atleast outputting glyphs that are not supported in the UI font)

  • Sadly, a .dse file can't be read. The only thing I've got left to offer is a vague memory that Daz Connect quite often doesn't decrypt scripts properly causing odd errors. If you've installed it using Connect, uninstall and then reinstall manually or with DIM.

However, I doubt it's this as two of you have the issue and it seems unlikely you would both have used Connect but only on a Mac!

  • I've never used Connect, only DIM.

Confirmed DIM user here too - plus both my machines are pulling content from the same NAS.

However, I have just tried it again and it has now worked - which is annoying as I haven't done anything relevant since it failed the past few times.

EDIT: OK I have now been spamming the script and cancelling it repeatedly and it works around 9/10 times now. It also appears to be selecting a different inspirational prset each time and so I guess the script just does not like some of them. Also, while cycling through the presets, when it gets to one that it cannot match the font to it seems to blank out the drop-down selection and then does not change this - therefore, combined with the font error in the logs I think it's this that is causing the crash.

Therefore, to murgatroyd314, can you try repeatedly running it over and over to see if it will eventually open? Also, make sure you have as many of these fonts installed as you can: Tahoma (Bold, Regular and Italic), Georgia (Bold & Regular), Impact (Bold), Trebuchet MS (Bold), Times New Roman, Courier (Bold & Regular), Courier New (Bold) & Arial.
