Objects moving other objects

Hello

I want to start out that this question may have been asked before.  My trouble is that I do not know even right language to use to do an effective search.  So any guidance, directly or through links, would be appreciated.

I am creating a table in Blender that has leaves (extends the table)  that fold down at both sides of the main table.  I am able to use the joint editor to have the leaf swing up and down.  I am trying to make this realistic, so under the leaves is a piece of wood that moves side to side that either holds the leaf up or lets it swing down.  I can get the the piece of wood to swing side to side.  Here are the steps I do not know how to do, or if it is even possible in Daz, to 1) not allow the leaf to move unless the piece of wood swings to the side and 2) have the leaf swing down when the piece of wood is moved to the side.  In other words, when I have the piece of wood swing, I want the leaf to swing down.  So I want object 1 to rotate object 2 when it is rotated and only when it has been rotated.

Thank you for any help you can provide.

  • You could probably set up an ERC link between the two rotations, though that wouldn't stop people from manually setting the slave one. However you may need to do it step-wise to avoid intersection. Assuming this is Daz Studio set the two rotations as they should be when the leaf is up (assuming down is the zero state), right-click in the Parameters pane and set it to Edit mode, then right-click on the rotation you want to be the controller and select ERC Freeze - if you've just set the rigging up and haven't yet memorised it uncheck the option to restore rigging, check that the slave rotation is the only thing checked in the list of controlled properties, and click Accept - now test the relationship by moving the support and watching the leaf move.
