Is it possible to block/mute a contributor to the forums?

There is one contributor to these forums whose future posts I have no interest in viewing or interacting with. All they do is post snide, unhelpful, nasty little comments without ever offering solutions or help. This person has thousands of posts and yet all of those I have seen have been condescending and sneering and utterly unhelpful. None of them break the forum rules but I'd rather consign them to the trashcan of comments I never see. Is there any functionality in the forums to do this? Most of the forums I belong to have this capability but I can't find it here.

I respect their right to post within the forum rules but I'd rather not see what useless vitriol they have to offer. Personally, I prefer to offer help rather than putdowns.

You can add them to a block list.  Go to the gear in the left hand upper corner click it then click your name then the gears that are right across from your name and click Edit Profile in the middle of the list there is Ignore List.

  • Perfect. Thanks for the help!

This ignore function is rather useless, because you still get a message, that this user has commented.
It would have been better, to be let unnoticed of any action by the ignored person.

You also see any threads they post, I think.

can confirm, have inadvertantly replied to others forgetting the OP I blocked was the thread author and felt stupid because of it blush

Well, I sincerely apologize to all the people who've blocked me but still get messages that I've posted...  in all fairness though, I still have to look at my posts as I write them and I honestly think that's punishment enough... probably not, my posts are pretty terrible and probably cause several kinds of skin ailments as well as a rare fungal condition, which I'm not even sure how that works, but it's been documented and I'm sorry about the inconvenience and whatever ointments were necessary to treat those... also, I'd like to point out that I'm not condescending... I'm deranged and that's quite different... also I don't sneer... it's just the way I look... it's a little weird and disturbing, but it's generally not a sneer... unless I'm actually sneering about something which is actually hard to tell because as I mentioned previously, I look kinda weird and sneerie to begin with...

So anyway, sorry about having to block me and still getting messages about me posting... honestly I feel it would be more effective if the blocked person got an electrical shock if you block them, but I've gotten so many electric shocks and I still chew on lamp cords and appliance wires, so it would hardly stop me... and actually sometimes a good electric shock is kinda nice...

    Anyway... sorry.

Now, I'm sure I'm blocked by some, but I find it more effective instead of blocking if you turn off notifications for the forum. It's half broken anyway. That's what I do. Also, I never read a thread unless it's technical instructions, otherwise I go to the end of the thread and make my own comment that everyone will likely ignore, at least that a reasonable expectation in my view for those of us that aren't vociferous readers of all. My posts are usually just fluff about a new DAZ 3D product saying how nice it is or some excessive talking about my hardware/software/security upgrade plans.

  • There is only one user on my ignore list, and he did not post here ... yet ;-)

Seems kinda stupid to offer a block option and have it not function correctly.  Kinda stupid.  I have a list as long as my body on Fb of folks I don't need to hear or see and it works as expected.  Be nice if DAZ FIXED their forums up a little bit in this regard and give us better emoticons!

Is that you Mada?  I can't see you honey?? cheeky

it takes a lot more than disagreeing with me and disliking me to make me block someone

otherwise half the forum would be on my ignore list devil

I tend to be the opposite and want to interact and stir the pot

a lot of the ones I have blocked have not posted in years, there are only 2 or 3 who occasionally still do and interestingly their threads often get locked or vanish

    conversely

    I believe I m on many people's ignore list...

I always appreciate a legit blocking function. As someone who has had some stalkerish moments from people pestering me it's nice to just be able to not see them or have them see me. Daz forum blocking is not effective.

it must be me. I'm cranky with this place devil... i notice when I reply most of the time its the last time anyone else replies or its days or longer.

Blocking a person should work both ways. If you block them, they shouldn't see your posts either. If they annoy you that much, you probably annoy them that much too. On the other hand, I kind of liked how the ancient instant message clients used to actually tell you the message can't be sent because the other person is blocking you. I think at some point they stopped that because it's better for business if people stay on the network all day and have no idea that 90 of the 100 people on their list aren't seeing anything they post.
