What does "A valid PostgreSQL CMS connection could not be established" mean and how do I fix it?

PostgreSQL CMS is the database behind Smart Content (and Categories/Products in te Product Library tab). It should start up in the background when either Daz Studio or DIM launch so that they can use it. If it's not working then there could be a few reasons behind that - maybe your PC's firewall is blocking the connection or something else is not letting it run. I am assuming you have not changed the config or deleted any files for it recently?
I uninstalled and reinstalled daz studio, but I did let microsoft monkey with stuff when I was crashing constantly.... How do i check, or what do I need to do?
Well, PostgreSQL CMS would be a separate item available within DIM and so should be visible as an installed "Product" there.
Firstly, you should check to ensure that when you run Daz Studio or DIM that "PostgreSQL Server" is actually launched in the background. Start either application and then launch Task Manager (either Ctrl-Alt-Delete and select it from the little menu or type the name into the search bar under the Windows start button). Hopefully, you should see a few entries under "Background Processes" named "PostgreSQL Server" this will determine if there is a problam launching the CMS or a problem connecting to it.
If it does not run then it could either be blocked by Windows or maybe the database has got corrupt and it's exiting out directly after launch. I assume you've never tried to run it as administrator? I believe that can lead to permission issues.
If it does run then there is a connection issue. If you are looking at DIM then check the storage icon (the one with multiple cyclinders on top of each other between "Help" and the cog) - that should be white and hovering over it should give a tooltip saying to click it to stop. If it is greyed-out then DIM cannot connect to it either. This may indicate a firewall issue so if you have any firewall software installed then check to see if there is anything in the logs about it blocking connections. If DIM can connect then check the "Installation" tab in settings and note the "Content Database Base" and "Content Database Port" values - these you will have to replicate in Daz Studio in the "CMS Settings" of the preferences panel. Once you have updated the values you can click "Apply" and then try hitting the Start button to see if that makes the connection.
Jasmine I was having similar issues ,ended up checking task manager after trying to install 4 times and it just kept hanging up .In task manager I found 6 different CMS running and I ended all of them .Then restarted my computer ,reinstall PostgreSQL CMS
and then ran the installer for DAZ Studio 4.22.15 then it finally worked .
Thanks, guys! Gonna see if I can fix this.
