American Ring Tail Cat

In 1998 and new breed was established from feral kittens, they carried their tails in a ring on their back, never straight.  I have one and I am trying to do a 3d model of her, she was a feral cat and the problem is making the tail circle into a ring but seem life-like.  As you can see from the picture her tail is in a ring and that is how she carries it all the time.  I would like a few suggestions on how to portray her tail and still have it look real.
