All assets completely vanished from my Smart Content

So that's new. All my figures,mats, shaders,props etc., are gone. Including the packages that come free with G8 and 9. I mean they are still there for me to reinstall from DM or DC. But that's 100's of items to reinstall. Everything was just fine when i closed it yesterday. Totay however when i opened it it loaded slow, reading below " Updating Metadata" i bet it has something to do with it. my internet connection is working. 

I'm I the only one? Any idea why?

I've had this a few times. The latest time, I found an option in DIM on the installed tab that fixed 99% of my installs. I'm not at my computer so don't know what that option was, but it was available by selecting everything in the installed tab and right right clicking. May have been something like reimport to database or reimport metadata. I'm sure someone will be along soon with the answer.

I've found logging into your account in Studio (Daz Connect) and having the option for it to automatically update metadata turned on will cause all manner of issues with stuff disappearing. I believe the advice is to not use either of those things and to never sign in in Studio. Counter intuitive, but good advice.

Hold on a while and don't reinstall everything. I've done that only to find the same problem happens. Keep everything installed in DIM and I'm sure some folk will come along with a better explanation of the root problem and steps that can rectify it.

Are you logging in to Daz from Studio? If you are installing everything with DIM, there is no need. Logging in to Daz is only needed for Connect, which not only wants to install the same content in a different place, it can update your metadata without warning (which can be inhibited, apparently). There have been enough tales of woe about Connect and metadata for DIM users, so avoid it. In Preferences (F2), Startup, uncheck "Login Automatically. with Remembered Credentials". The login page has those credentials, so you can clear that out to prevent it from happening.

Have yiou checked in the Content Library under Daz Studio formats? If they are on an external drive make sure that its drive letter has not chnaged. If they are in your Docuemnts folder make sure One drive hasn't decided to move them. Make sure you haven't moved or renamed the content directory folder.

I recently installed newest DIM (it deleted old one and installed new version) not sure if that has to do with anything. But most of the assets were installed through Daz Connect

So I think the reason some of the G9 and G8 content did not install properly is because I didn't first reinstall some of the starter essentials. Now it turns out some G8 files even need G3 essentials instead to work properly. Better reinstall G2 essentials as well just in case case.

The issue of some files not loading correctly was due g8 and g3 starter essentials not redownloaded first into daz after everythig disapeared. I belive it been resolved (hopefully). Thank you Richard!

Offline, if you do not want to use Connect. You do, however, have a mix of Connect-installed and DIM-installed content. You should pick one and stay with it (note that some plugins and content cannot be installed with Connect, including Daz Studio itself (thinking of updates and beta versions)). To clean it up, you will have to go nuclear on the database. You could uninstall everything installed with Connect and re-install with DIM (you can select multiple products, or all if you like). The database will still know about the Connect versions and could be confusing with those Connect-style flashes on the product icons. If you have made any customization on the metadata (categorization, or other modifications) you could export it (Content DB Maintenance->Export User Data) then reset the database and re-import the metadata. This will gather all the metadata from the User Data and any DIM-installed products that have a metadata file in the Runtime/Support folder.

Conversely, you could uninstall everything installed with DIM, and use Connect only (except for those products that cannot be installed with Connect). It is not a trivial task, and should be considered carefully. You will be happier in the long run sticking to one method.
