Run Carrara 7/7.2 Pro in Windows 10?

I don't recall if I have been able to get it to run since I updated to Windows 10 ages ago but I thought I'd see if anyone has any suggestions. Situation:

  1. Running as Administrator.
  2. Tried all the compatiblity settings.
  3. The program opens the UAC panel, I click to accept, it goes back to the desktop, appears to start loading and displays a window outline for fraction of a second and then the window closes and nothing else happens.

I'm wondering if a Win 7 virtual machine might do the trick... and if I really want to run Carrara badly enough to bother with that hassle!

    Are you installing it outside of Program Files?

    maybe upgrade to Carrara 8.5 enlightened

    it has lots of cool additional functions and included content as well as working on Windows 10

    I just installed Carrara 7 Express on Win10 Home and it appears to be working.  I installed it outside of Program Files.

    Ahhhh, install outside of Program folder. Interesting, never thought off that! I'll try reinstalling like that.

    While 8.5 would be good I'm sure, it's out of my impulse buy range, especially for an occasional usage tool.

    do you have a graphics tablet connected?

    if yes, what brand? 

    if no then goto next angel

    While I have a Huion one, it's not connected.

    Oh wow. Sheer genius!  Thanks so much!

    I think I reinstalled the drivers without Wacom driver at one point, so that must be why it no longer works.

    Even more, you'll be amazed at all of the new advancements that have gone into 8.5! I couldn't go back to 7 after I tried 8. But I could never go back to 8 after trying 8.5!!!

    The 8.5 Shader addition - Multi-layer Shader lets us stack elements in any channel much like 'layers' in Photoshop.

    The Light Avatar improvements might seem small seeing it written on paper, but in practice? OMG!!!

    For me, the ability to load and use Genesis was a real game changer! I started collecting every crazy shape I could get and now my Genesis 1 figure is Truly Incredible as a Carrara figure!
