you need the product index number from the product page or DIM, if you use it, and you should find the readme files here http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/read_me/index/start

but it should be in the folder where you installed the product to in a readme folder and it will not show up inside Daz Studio

  • If you are using Install Maanger just click the i in a circle icon to the right of the product name.

I really think the read me's should be more easily accessible in the Daz store before purchase, and should be directly linked from the product page. For some products it may not be so important, but for others with conditions (merchant resources for example, which state that the conditions are in the read me) I shouldn't have to go to such lengths to find them and find it very frustrating that they are only easily searchable through DIM after purchase. (Mini rant over)

About the only thing I can think of that has been said more often is the definition of 'soon'...

Actually the readme is available before purchase.  Just take a note of the SKU number and then go here to check it.

I did say "more easily accessible". I don't think you should have to have copy paste an sku and have the link to hand in order to access a readme.

It used to be that the only way to get a readme of a product was to actually purchase and download the product, as the readme was included in the download. And I am not talking solely about Daz 3D here, it was common practice for almost all content stores.

Most times it doesn't matter, but there are specific cases in the daz store that quote the readme for terms of use, but without a link, and personally I think that's unfair. Just sayin.

Reason: It isn't as simple as "just" adding a link on the product page. One of the reasons it hasn't happened is we do not want to add any links to product pages that result in a 404 (page not found) error; automatic or otherwise. Unfortunately, not all products have had their ReadMe moved over or rebuilt to meet the new standards yet. Thus, Daz must verify that the page to be linked actially exists before creating said link. Doing that automatically, as the page is being loaded [so that the link becomes available the moment the ReadMe page is available], would cause each load of the product page to slow down by at least the amount of time it takes for a script on the product page to query the documentation center and for the documentation center to respond. It would cause the store to seem significantly less responsive and put a significantly higher load on the documentation center server... which in turn causes loading of the store page to become even slower.

That is not to say Daz is not trying to ultimately get to a point where the ReadMe for every product has been updated/migrated. They have even built tools that do the majority of the work involved in generating the ReadMe, but verifying the results and posting them is still a manual process that takes time.

That all being said... Daz may have thought of a different approach to resolving whether a ReadMe page exists; one that might make ReadMe linking a practical possibility, but it'll require more investigation.
