Face Controls: easy way to use? (problem with the "gyzmos")

So, when I apply face controls to a character and select its node, the "gyzmos" appear in the viewport. The idea then is to click on the "gyzmos" (I've forgotten the correct name, they're those indications that appear in the viewport and are interactable) and move them with the mouse, but that's the problem. It's a nightmare to select what you want, you click on a gyzmo and the program thinks you're clicking on something else, on the character's head, for example, and deselects the Face Control. It's horrible.

So I have to use the "LR" command in the parameters and change expressions there, but those parameters for some reason don't cover all the possible movements. Is there an easy way to use Face Controls other than selecting each node independently and changing the parameters? How can you use gyzmos correctly if they barely work?

Thanks.
