Hair help please

[FOR POSER.  (I can't get DS to work right yet.)]

Do any of you know of a "hair converter" or some way to use a good old Millennium hair prop on G1-2-3 people?

Specifically, I'd like to be able to use a Neftis hair prop made for M4 on M6... so it will fit properly and stay put when the figure moves.

[The only "converter"-type programs I've seen on DAZ, Renderosity and RDNA all seem to be pretty old -- just for Millennium content or Genesis1.  I haven't found anything for Genesis2, which is what I need.]

  • Is it a Prop or a Figure?  I've had some luck scaling prop hair and parenting it to G2M's (Or M6's, etc) Head node.  For example the Jai Hair (For M3, M4, etc) requires just a bit of scaling and a small tweak on the translation to bring it in nice and close.  As long as it's parented to the head, it will follow the character around as it moves.

For Figure hair, the autofit should conform it fairly well.  You may have to set the Fit To setting under General in the parameter tab.

If you'd like more step-by-step instructions, just let me know.

I forget the exact steps, but you can convert a prop to a figure pretty easily (from the Scene tab menu, I think). I've converted a handful of Neftis' older props this way to fit both Genesis and Gensis 2.

  • Thank you, Windamyre and evilded777!  Before reading your suggestions the best I've been able to do is just manually Scale & Trans the prop's XYZ, and then parent it to G2's Body.  It turned out not too badly, though not really good enough for close-ups.  I also tried my Poser Fitting Room, but that failed; my fault since I haven't studied how to use the Fitting Room sufficiently.

Then I saw your suggestions about converting the hair props to figures, and having autofit properly fit the hair figure... that sounds promising!  So how do I convert the hair props to figures?  And by Autofit do you mean the DSONforPOSER Python "Transfer active morphs" script in the Scripts Tab, or...?

Also, I don't understand "set the Fit To setting under General in the parameter tab"...  I'm using PoserPro2014 and have looked, but couldn't find these designations...

...So I'll gladly take you up on your offer of instructions Windamyre, and I thank you kindly!

  • Drat my bad eyes!  Didn't notice the big ["FOR POSER.  (I can't get DS to work right yet.) banner."  I never learned Poser, just Daz.

Not sure how to do it in Poser.  Are there any Poser users out ther who can help Knute out using his hairs on G2M?

  • I've been doing some research and apparently there are no "Hair Converters" anywhere (none that will convert an M4 Hair Prop to an M6 Hair Figure).

The only possibility seems to be Poser's FITTING ROOM.  (Unless DAZ Studio can somehow make the M4 Hair conform to the M6 head, and then transfer the new Prop or CR2 to Poser.  I don't know.)

Anyway, I have been working in the Fitting Room and HAVE been able to make a couple of non-G2 Hair props nicely conform to the M6 head... but then I don't see how to properly Save the finished Hair so I can use it in the Pose Room.  That is, in the Fitting Room when I've finished shaping the hair, I then click "Create figure", give it time to work, and then return to the Pose Room.  The results have been pretty bad so far.

Is there anyone familiar with how to use Poser's Fitting Room?  I think maybe I just need help in how to do the last step of "Create figure".  Thank you kindly!

Okay ... for a simple prop that just rides around on the head, bring the .obj file into a modeler and adjust it there to fit the desired figure in the default position. Export out the derivative .obj file using a new name so it does not overwrite the original one. Then import the .obj to Poser using whichever scale gets it to land properly on the head and make the prop.
