orbit tool bug?

Occasionally, the orbit tool (not sure if that's what to call it. The ball with an around going around it that allows you to rotate) suddenly stops functioning normally, and instead of rotating, it only allows me to move in straight lines, similar to the pan tool, however I can move in diagonal directions instead of only right angles. This is really annoying! Am I accidentally changing a setting maybe?

    Or maybe it's not quite moving in straight lines, but it's moving completely differently than normal at any rate.

    Do you mean the Rotate Tool (Alt+Shift+R), from the toolbar?

    It is supposed to move on the axis that you select Blue, Green or Red when you select one of the circles.   If you hover your mouse to the centre of the gizmo, you should see a yellow circle highlighted (the tooltip says 'Free Rotate') is that what you are looking for?

    aha! Thanks so much, I didn't notice I had accidentally clicked in there. Very convenient for it to be located right next to the movement tool : P
