Need help

I havent used Daz3d for quite awhile. Let's just say my content library consists of a handful of items for V3-V4 and M2-M3.

I got a new computer hooked up a little while back and recently DLd Daz 3D 4.8 pro 64bit complete with the installer etc. I get the idea of the installer and have used it to DL my small content library. pretty straight forward. All seemed well....

Today I decided to open Daz3D to try to take a look at stuff and figure out what is new and how things work now. The program will open but then is 100% frozen. I cant do anything, click anything (I get that horrid windows beep error that tells me my comp is peeved at me), or use the program in any way. I cant even properly close it. I have to open task manager to close it.

I've tried google and tried figuring out how to uninstall the program and the best answer I got was to delete everything through install manager and then delete install manager. I did this. 300+ items uninstalled and then properly uninstalled install manager through programs. A few folders were left and I manually deleted those then rebooted my computer and re-installed. I re-installed my library and Im having the exact same issue. It seems it didnt properly uninstall the program and kept it in it's frozen state? I then tried to manually DL the application from the website and see if it would override the old version and still nada, completely frozen. I even tried running it in compatibility mode and as an admin. Nada.

I'm up to date on all my windows crap (windows 8.1) and all my nvidia graphics drivers are updated. I am at a loss and dunno what else to do to try to make this program work. :( Im afraid that is the end of my "tech saavy". >.<

Any ideas?

    What error messages, if any?

    What are the computer specs?

What security software are you running?

  • Im not seeing any errors on screen and am not sure how to find out if there are any "behind the scenes". >.<

    Comp: Intel(R) Core(TM) i-7-4790K CPU @4.00GHZ  4.00GHZ; 16.0GB RAM; 64bit operating system x64 based processor

I use Norton Security with Backup (Norton 360 I think to be more accurate)

The basic physical specs are more than enough to run it.

There are no known problems with Studio and Norton (or PostgreSQL, which is the database software that runs CMS).

  • IDK what is wrong then. :(

Is there a better or more thorough way to uninstall the full program? I've tried several times but it doesnt seem to be fully deleting it or all it's settings because it installs back to the same frozen state. IDK if I am missing some crucial key to uninstalling it properly or not since Im new to the whole install manager thing. It seems straight forward enough but IDK. It 'uninstalls" but doesnt seem to un-download persay. When I install it again everything is downloaded already and ready to simply install. It seems to be keeping track of everything somehow and has memory of it. How to I erase that part? Delete it fully so I can do a clean install of the application?

  • If anyone else has any ideas I could still use help. I tried uninstalling everything again and DLing the 32bit version of Daz and still nada. 100% frozen screen. :(

I truly have no idea what is going on or how to fix it. I have never had this problem with any program before. I'd like to get Daz working asap as I was hoping to add to my content library a bit over Xmas but there isnt much point if the program wont work at all. :*(

Thanks in advance for any help or tips.

  • UPDATE:

I am glad I am an obnoxiously persistent person lol. I seem to have found at least a temporary fix for my problem. I was dorking around with it earlier still trying to find a fix and had the application open when I pressed the ESC key. That fixed the window so everything was no longer greyed out and frozen and I could start clicking on stuff within the program.

Now every time I open the program it is still 100% frozen but as soon as I press ESC it unfreezes. I dont know why this is but Im happy it seems to be at least temporarily working. Now I have a nice learning curve to figure out with all the new 'smart content" and genesis figures etc before I can try to render a scene and see if the program will work properly throughout the course of building and rendering a scene.

  • It sounds as if a dialogue is opening, either off-screen or behind the main window pressing Esc is the same as clicking the Cancel button. Try reloading your layout (Window>Workspace>Select layout) and then close and reopen Daz Studio.

If it doesn't: What resolution is your display running at? What, if any, plug-ins do you have? Is there a sceen set to load on start (Edit>Preferences>Startup)?

  • The first thing didnt work but I think you hit it on the head with the second part. Edit>preferences>startup. Every box in there was checked. Load file (none); Load homepage; and Load metadata. I unchecked the first 2. I have no idea what the 3rd is (metadata import) or if it is important or not. I closed the program and restarted it and VOILA! No more frozen screen. So hopefully that is it and a permanent fix for me.

    THANK YOU!

  • The Home page is a dialogue that has links for launching several help features, and for quickly building an initial sceen using Scene Builder. If you go to Help>Home... do you get this on screen? If not you may need to hit Cancel again.

  • If I go to help then hit Home, yes that screen pops up in the center of my Daz screen.

  • I just checked and if I go to preferences again and recheck Load homepage while leaving the Load file box unchecked it freezes up Daz again. It only seems to work for me if I leave both boxes unchecked. then the program works just fine. Leaving that unchecked shouldnt cause any problems should it if I can still call up the help page elsewhere?

  • Those are fine - the first shouldn't be doing anything if it's set to None (if it was loading a file that might be causing an error message that is hidden and blocking), disabling Home is not going to do anything bad (in fact when shown at launch it has a Do not show again checkbox that does the same as unchecking it in Preferences). All the Home features can be accessed later if they are desired. It is odd that there is this issue, though - could you open a support ticket please, so that it can be looked at in case theer's a bug.

I wonder if it may be that Norton is blocking that call to Home...although it would the first time I've seen a Norton/Studio conflict like this.
