Kara 9 'a bunch of polygons with a haircut'

The quote in the title is a slight modification of a quote by Starbuck, from Battlestar Galactica : 'It's your chance to find out if you're really god or just a bunch of circuits with a bad haircut.' wink

Main render of Kara 9 (no idea who did this render, but the file name is CakeKaraMain, so maybe Cake One ?):

https://www.daz3d.com/introducing-kara-9-hd

The HD Addon is back and is not part of Kara 9.

One thing to keep in mind when taking advantage of the promotions surrounding the launch of Kara 9 (all linked with her Pro Bundle), the new products related to Star Wars and Battlestar Galactica are obviously covered by an Editorial licence:

Huh, was not expecting Katee Sackhoff in 2024... but she brings fond memories.

I don't understand the pricing structure of G9 core characters.

  • Oh frack yes.

Don't get the recent Pro Bundle strategy. If you go to the product page you see 15 products included. But the 3 additional shapes are listed as well as the shapes bundle. So one could very well say that 12 products are included if the shapes bundle counts as one. Also why are we back in the "HD Add-On" ages. Wasn't G9 supposed to have HD included in general? Also the new HD seems to be crippled without dedicated navel or nipple morphs as those are not included with the body morph as far as I can see.

Will nevertheless probably get the bundle. But not today as I want to keep my 8 tokens for March Madness which will potentially start tomorrow.

There is one question I have. The makeup seems to be included in the Pro Bundle. But where to get that tattoo used in one of the promos?

Nevermind, seems to be from Irezumi Black and Grey LIE Tattoos for Genesis 9 which is included with the Wang 9 bundle.

The main hypothesis is the shape bundle and the Starter Bundle are included to automatically hide them for people who bought the Pro Bundle.

They seems to be included in the base product, maybe it's a mistake, maybe it's how they wanted to do it:

    • /data/Daz 3D/Genesis 9/Base/Morphs/Daz 3D/Kara 9/Kara9_body_cbs_Navel_HD4.dhdm

    • /data/Daz 3D/Genesis 9/Base/Morphs/Daz 3D/Kara 9/Kara9_body_cbs_Navel_HD4.dsf

    • /data/Daz 3D/Genesis 9/Base/Morphs/Daz 3D/Kara 9/Kara9_body_cbs_NipplesFeminine_HD4.dhdm

I like the new strategy very much, as it now removes all the included smaller bundles from the store when one has bought the Pro/Mega bundle.

I'm just wondering as to why Daz reverted back to having a separate HD Add-On for Kara 9?

Yes, but it only fixes the problem for newer bundles. It's been ages since the last "complete the bundle" sale - and the catalog is cluttered with bundles for which I've already purchased all parts. Navigating the store pages for various sales is becoming cumbersome again. :|

Really like the setup of the bundle, with the starter bundle included in the pro bundle and the HD add-on included in both.

Really like the contents as well. The figure is fairly close to Katee, but not so close that people would still get Battlestar Gallactica vibes from a fantasy styled render. The figure isn't exactly a supermodel figure either, so can't see how anyone could possibly complain about that, unless they actually want a supermodel figure. Well, I would like to see a supermodel figure, but for now, I'll make do with some of the Genesis 3 figures for that purpose, like Vicky, Lilith or Karen. Kara is still a welcome addition though.

I don't trust the "dForce Sci-Fi Pilot Suit for Genesis 9" and "dForce Daybreak Outfit for Genesis 9" outfits since the texture packs add-ons have editorial licenses. The outfits are waaayyyyy too close to the originals. I don't want someone to look at my stuff and say, "Oh, that's a Star Wars outfit or Battlestar Galactica outfit, but colored blue."  That means I'd only get one outfit in the pack and that one has torso cut outs.  Yes, I can create a geoshell for the torso that matches the texture in the outfit, but it's a pain.

I despise these "Editorial License" products.  If it's a potential copyright/trademark issue for us to make commercial renders, they shouldn't be sold in the store.

Not sure if I should make a new thread to ask but speaking of Kara 9, I hope I can semi-hijack this thread to just ask:
Anyone know what the product name is for what Kara 9 is wearing in the Thin-Shape add-on. The first/main promo image

One the one hand side I also like the new setup as through including all single items one gets them automatically and is not bothered with e.g. the Starter Bundles in listings anymore.

On the other hand it makes a bundle like Kara look bigger than it is as it actually comes down to 11 products or just 10 if you even do not count the newly introduced HD-extra product.

ditto.  wasn't that HD-included thing one of the most-hyped points of the genesis 9 figure launch?

I like the character because she's looking great for militarized settings, but I don't think I'll go for anything with editorial licensing. Problem here is that whilst the base suit without addons comes only with the regular license, the shape is unmistakingly Star Wars pilot suit and the add-on only alters it a little with more colors.

It's going to be safer to put a generic space suit on her.

    Ditto for the daybreak outfit.

I have to wonder if Katee Sackhoff is actually getting anything off of this, as for once we have a celebrity likeness where there's absolutely no attempt at all at disguising exacty who the figure is modeled on...   That said, I have to say that absolutely love the figure as not only is it the first G9 model since V9 that actually looks like a real human being without any wandering into toon territory, but it's also a female bodytype that's unique to G9 base figures so far.  The Pro Bundle is a fairly solid mix as well, though I presonally have no use for yet another robot/chicken walker vehicle, but given that the total Pro bundle price in my cart was only $24.78 (with several add ons and 8 tokens applied) and that there are actually Star Wars and BSG specific add-ons, this was the easiest G9 bundle purchase I can remember making.

  • Interesting. I wouldn't have realized it was supposed to be Katee Sackhoff without it being mentioned. The more obvious one to me is Michael 9 looking identical to Oscar Isaac.

  • Hello,

can someone tell me what hair was used in her first render ?

    Thanks

Seriously?  Beyond the physical resemblence, the character is named Kara (as in Kara Thrace aka Starbuck,) most of the outfits are jumpsuits and pilots uniforms, one of which is actually branded and advertised as a "Battlestar" set with the advertising tagline "Join Starbuck's Air WIng with this BATTLESTAR GALACTICA add-on."  It's hard to get more blatant than that.

Kara 9 doesn't look enough like Katee Sackhoff to me for me to have recognized her as such. Michael 9 as Oscar Isaac and HID's catalog are what I'd expect of a lookalike. Even after reading Katee Sackhoff's name in the Battlestar Galactica add-on copy, I didn't think she looked like her. For one, she doesn't have her bug eyes, and the included expressions don't reproduce Starbuck's most memorable facial tics.

I definitely see Katee Sackoff in the character and like the character and ponytail but not really into the rest of the bundle. I like sexier sci-fi outfits and already have morphs to make characters thinner, fatter or more buff. That said, the price of the pro bundle is pretty decent with the 3 Omni hair products, the $6.00 coupon and tokens... I almost checked out last night with the hair products but didn't get the warning that prices would change at Daz midnight so luckily kept them in my cart for today. I can always use the sci-fi outfits on male characters (except the cutout one which is at least a little sexy.) But do I really need anything in the bundle? Not really. Still on the fence.

The eyes are something that some cameras bring out more than others and they're nowhere near as blatant in real life... (we were both guests at a con in Australia many years back and we shared a number of vehicles.)  Anyway, here's a quick side by side of two of the product images and two of real Katee... same lips, same jaw, same philtrum, same eyebrows, same ears, eyes are slightly softened and I think the DAZ nose is slightly stronger while the face is just a hint broader.

Which hair is that in the promo? I like the character. The first person came to my mind was the Katee Sackhoff lol, nice one.
