Install Manager - installed files not showing

I think I screwed up my DIM. Originally I had it I thought loaded on the one disc drive I had Poser on (X) but apparently it was on C. I was using C only for Windows and programs and didn't save anything to the user folders, etc. Long story short, my C drive crashed and needed to have Windows reinstalled. I copied the DAZ 3D folder under documents, and copied the program folders with DAZ (one in programs and one for x86) in case (from windows.old because I actually had to install windows twice, but I digress). So I installed DIM and nothing is showing up under installed (these all resided in a custom runtime folder on drive X, where they still are installed, and I changed this in settings). From what I've gathered in researching, did I need to copy something from public? Is there no way to get that list back? I really don't want to reinstall everything, especially since I deleted the install files, so they all have to be redownloaded.

  • I looked in the new public folder after installing a new file and it shows up in the manifest folder - is it possible to just transfer dsx files in there? I do have some of the old installer files that it created

  • If the content files are still installed to the same place then yes, just placing the old manifests in the new folder will let DIM see that they are installed.

  • yeah but I'm assuming the manifest files were what was in the public folder? I meant I had dsx files if that's what you mean, but that was from where I loaded the content to install it.

Also, if I install them again via the DIM it's just overwriting them right? It just occurred to me I should be sure I'm not loading double content.

    Thanks

  • Installing to the same location will replace the old files  -however, DIM does make a note that there was a copy of the file already there and won't remove it if you uninstall the product. Yes, the .dsx files are the manifests that go in the Manifests folder in the DAZ Install manager folder - or in another folderset by editing the .ini file.

  • Ahh, ok, thanks. One other thing, do you know a reason why the install zip files aren't deleting even though it's set? It's actually depositing dsx files in this ready to  install download folder as well, even though the manifest is elsewhere. I have just been dropping the files in there since they were already downloaded (and was reloading them though now I know I didn't have to, but wasn't sure what was and wasn't installed it was quicker than looking through it). Some of them I don't believe were installed previously with the DIM in this version of Poser, they were from the last install but I copied the DIM files over so they didn't have to download again.

  • You can use the context menu option in Install Manager > Settings to "fix" the count in the file register

  • I'm not sure what that means Cris. What is off about the count? Or you mean that it's not deleting them?

Also, something occurred to me. I'm not sure if something is set wrong, because those dsx files that I was trying to get to show up for the manifest? They are still in the same folder and show up now when reinstalled but didn't before. But I guess the manifest is in a different place, which is why I am lost it is saving them in two places. The manifest files are under Documents/DAZ 3D/InstallManager/ManifestFiles where as the download folder is on my other drive.

The other really odd thing is that the documents folder has two DAZ 3D folders, one with the install manager and one with studio. not even sure how that is possible if they are named the same.

  • Cris was replying to my comment about DIM not removing files it isntalled over the top of previously installed files.

I think we may have been getting confused - there's a .dsx file with the same name as the zip that goes in the downloads folder, and there's another one that goes in the ManifestFiles folder for content that DIM installs. They aren't the same, and the ones from the Downloads folder shouldn't be moved to the ManifestFiles. I was thinking you had the old ManifestFiles folder and wanted to use its contents so that DIM knew what had been isntalled on the old machine.

The "Documents" folder isn't a folder - it's a library. What you are seeing is (at least) the My Documents folder for your account and the Public Documents folder, the Install Manager folder is in Public Documents while the Studio folder is in My Documents.

I don't know why the zips would not be deleting - where is your new Downloads folder? There isn't, or shouldn't be, a folder named "Ready to Install" - unless you created it yourself and told DIM to put downloads there.
