Adding LIE makeup

I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong. And it's not limited to one product, I'm having this problem with any character that has makeup options included.

When I apply the makeup (say, lips, eyeshadow, etc), the area turns whitish instead of using the color of the makeup. This happens if I drag and drop, or if I double-click the material script.

Is there some sort of preference I need to set in DAZ Studio?  I have an RTX-4000 series graphics card if that means anything.

Some makeup are baked into the maps, some uses LIE, and with the PBRSkin shader there is a dedicated makeup channel.

How are you applying the makeup?

And try to give an example of which character you use, and which makeup.

OK, I bought the Kara 9 Pro bundle, which comes with "Makeup System - Kara 9 LIE Makeup Collection."  There are several scripts in the library that you can click or drag to the character to apply the makeup. Except that screen shot up there is what ends up happening.

This isn't the only LIE product I get the same effect on, so that is why I'm wondering if I am doing something wrong.

Changed the title to Adding LIE Makeup for clarification

    I don't have Kara 9.

If you go into the Surface tab > Head, can then see where the makeup have been added?

Properly in Base and translucency or in the Makeup channel.

The base channel has the default textures in it. The Makeup channel shows the attached (and I should say, it did show up correctly after I did an Edit > Undo. The whiteness went away, and it seems to show up correctly in the Makeup tab.

I'm just trying to figure out why the whiteness happens in the first place. It's a puzzle.

    That look right.

The top one is the mask for the makeup, and the bottom is the color for the makeup.

Have you tried an actual render instead of Iray preview - not that I can see why previes shouldn't show it.

What happen if you change the color in Makeup Base Color from white to e.g. blue

    Edit: "Undo" for what?

Changing the makeup base color from white to blue (0-0-255) creates a VERY VERY subtle difference. The lips go from reddish, to a shade that is slightly more plum-like.

I'll experiment a little more and see when it occurs. I would think if others were having this problem there would have been other posts about it. I'm sure I'm not doing something right somewhere along the line.

    AND ... "

    Edit: "Undo" for what?

When I first apply the lips or eyeshadow, I get that whiteness like I showed in the first screen shot.  But then if I choose Edit > Undo to take the LIE off, all of a sudden it seems to preview correctly. That's the weird part about all this.

That seems not correct... normally there should be a Foundation layer (like the attached SS of V9's makeup...). Check the layers in LIE and try applying a preset of "Kara 9 Makeup !Apply xx All..." first of all...

Ah maybe we are getting somewhere now. Thanks I will check that out!  I figured I might be doing something wrong 8-)

There does not need to be a foundation - only if you want to put an overall color layer on the character, such as foundation.

    No luck.

    1) Loaded Genesis 9 default

    2) Applied Kara 9 base material all

    3) Applied Kara 9 Makeup !Apply 04 All (double-clicked the script in the library)

This is the result using IRay Preview.

    It renders the same.

What do the layers look like when you open LIE from Makeup Base Color slot ?

This looks like the same display issue I have with makeup. Try to change the rendering from iray to anything else and back.

OMG THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!

It's definitely a display issue.  And again, if this matters, I'm using an NVidia RTX-4070 ti graphics card.

Thank you to everyone who helped me through this 8-)

Odd... but the issue is gone now ?

  • DeeceyDeecey Posts: 136

Yeah, if I switch to ANY other display mode (like wireframe or whatever) and then switch back to iRay preview, it previews and renders fine. And then I saved the project and reopened it, and it was fine then as well.

    WEIRD!

I should check my drivers, though I suspect they are close to current though.
