Rendering Low Light Areas

The attached shows the problem, its blown up to make it easier to see. At normal magnification the well lit area looks fine, but the shaded area is problematic. Is there a way of inproving without greatly increasing render time?

More light, such as a simple area light (or a ghost light) filling in thata rea will both reduce noise and speed rendering (because Iray keeps going until, if other stop conditions such as max time don't come first, it thinks the target percentage of the image is converged). Of course you will then have to adjust the tone mapping to avoid the image being too flat and bright.

What is your current rendering time and are you rendering with the GPU or CPU?

Using an Apple M1, so CPU.

The render took 30 mins, but didnt really get much better after an overnight session.
