How To Make Image Brighter in Iray Renders

Some of my iray renders came out darker than i expected. Some parts of the character were darker, but i wanted that area to be brighter. What should i do? I am using HDRI maps. So do i increase environment map setting, environment intensity, or add mesh lights? or is there any other way? Plus I am still confused between enviroment intensity and environment map scale setting. Thanks for the help

Depending on the current Tone Mapping settings, you can probably just adjust the f/stop or shutter speed to admit more light. The default is f/8 at 1/128 second. Halving the shutter speed admits twice as much light, and that might be enough to make your scene brighter.

If you're not familiar with photographic principles, adjusting by f/stops can be a little harder, because those values are not evenly doubled. The sequence of f/stops is as follows, where each value change admits twice as much light as the one before it:

    22, 16, 11, 8, 5.6, 4, 2.8, 2, 1.4

Note that you can also adjust the ISO ("film sensitivity") but a bug in D|S 4.8 (and possibly 4.9) displays the wrong EV value for the change. The exposure is correct, however. It's just a user interface mistake, and not a mistake in Iray.
