Big problem with crash on rendering...
Hello guys, I'm hoping someone out there will have an idea what's causing me this big problem.
I've been using DAZ for a while now and apart from the odd 'timeout' crash to desktop I've had very few problems with it, this unfortunately is no longer the case. A couple of days ago I started to render a scene that I had created and about 2 or 3 minutes into the render the whole PC just shut down and rebooted, not just a crash to desktop, a complete shut down, when it tried to reboot I got 'the blue screen' but I'm afraid it ran through what was going on far too quickly for me to catch what it said, other than something about 'memory dump'. I eventually got it to start up in safe mode but still was unable to find any problem, I checked through everything possible but no issues were obvious.
Cutting this part short, I have now ended up having to install a new GPU and I've upgraded the RAM slightly too, It has taken me 3 days to get my PC running again. BUT! I'm still getting the initial problem, everytime I start to render anything in DAZ 'bam'.... PC shuts down and tries to reboot, this is happening with anything and everything, not just one particular scene, I have even tried it with just a basic DAZ character and still it happens.
My DAZ settings are not so high either, I have it set to 'Full HD' - Render Quality 2 - Pixels at 1.2 - Sun and Sky only - Draw Dome on - and then various time and date settings for sunlight.
My set up at the moment is Intel i5 quad @3.1, 16Gb RAM and Nvidia Gtx 980ti.
If anyone has any ideas at all I'd be grateful.... Thanks
Oh by the way, I'm using iray and both 4.8 and 4.9beta - same thing is happening in both versions.

I wanna piggyback off of this... i have 2 rendering choices. Nvidia iray, and 3Delight whisch one should i actually use?
There are two 'easy' things that I can think of that would do that...both are hardware...heat and power supply.
Immediately after a crash, do you have to wait a little while before the machine will restart?
If not, pop into the BIOS and look at the system temps...
If not one of the 'easy' things, then what does the Studio log file say? (If you can get into Studio at all without a crash Help > Troubleshooting > View Log)
If your old GPU was less power-hungry than the 980ti, your Power Supply is probably insufficient. Complete shutdowns (not just blue-screen or reboot) usually indicate a power problem. Most modern PC BIOS monitor the power and if it goes too far out of whack it will simply cut off the machine rather than risk hardware damage.
What rating (i.e., wattage) is your Power Supply? And is your 980ti properly fed with the additional power connectors?

It lets you check how the gpu is doing.
Does it always happen; try with a simple scene. (If it turns out not to be PSU or a heat issue.)
The modern BIOS monitors a lot of things...like fans, too. If a fan isn't speeding up, when it should...it could also shut down. Or if the temperature hits a critical point it will shut down. Like hphoenix said, power...too much of a draw/not enough...instant shutdown.
Even a simple render demands a lot from a machine, so if something is out of spec, a shutdown is the safest thing to do.
Hi Guys, thanks for all the input here, sorry I've not been able to get back on it until now only I had that ugly word 'work' to deal with.
mjc1016 - By the time I manage to get into BIOS all the temps appear to be OK as far as I can tell, this includes CPU, RAM and GPU. I also have 'Everest' installed which is very good for monitoring stuff like this and periodic checks in there never seem to throw up any heat problems.
I can get DAZ to run no problem, I can move things around, build scenes add things, the only problem I get is soon after I hit the 'Render' button, shortly after the render starts I get the crash and reboot. I've checked the Studio log file but it's massive and nothing obvious jumps out to say what was happening at the time of the crash.
( I've now also completed several 'Torture Tests' with Prime95 on both my CPU and RAM and none of the tests have thrown up any problems with either).
Also guys, I forgot to mention that I did actually put in a 750W PSU at the time of fitting the new GPU, the minimum spec for the card is stated as being 600W (which is what my old PSU was).
I have managed to get a 'fatal error' report from event view just after the latest crash but I can't seem to get it to post up here.
