Can Carrara make HDRIs?

I've tried to do this a bunch of times, could never get it to work.

Painting the sun in at a higher dynamic range in Photoshop works decently well.

What I ended up doing, for Daz Studio, is use a Carrara image in a skydome, make the skydome transparent with refraction color = image, and then use the regular Iray sky to 'burn' through the skydome. The results are pretty good. The biggest problem you run into is that you have to set the image compression high enough not to compress the skydome image too much.

  • I saw you discussing the skydome/iRAY workarounds in another thread...ok, more than another :)

I've got that mostly working, it seems having to reduce the opacity can leave some odd artifacts in the render of the sky areas. If I make adjustments after the render I can almost get it to where it looks ok to me.

I'll have to try the PS HDRI repaint. I think I've seen that mentioned elsewhere as well when I started down the path of Carrara (or is it Darkness? I get those confused sometimes.)

    thanks
