Problem installing
I had to uninstall Daz as it totally filled up my C drive. Fortunately, I have a 900+ GB D drive, so I've been trying to install Daz there. Using Install Manager, I've changed the download an install paths to the D drive. However, when I try to start Daz after downloading my content, I get TONS of errors. The program usually says that the files needed can't be found, although I can look into the D drive's files and see the very files in the new D Daz directory that Daz says aren't there. They're there, but for some reason Daz doesn't recognize them.
Another oddity, the little character pics for figures like the Genesis 2 Base Female are sometimes there under "Figures," so those are sometimes being downloaded, installed and read. However, when I attempt to load the Geneis 2 Base Female the following error pops up: "Some assets needed to load the file were missing. The contents may not work as expected. The following files could not be found: /data/DAZ 3D/Genesis 2/Female/Genesis2Female.dsf"
I'm now on my third try uninstalling and then reinstalling Daz Studio and my content. Any help on this?

Have you pointed Daz Studio to the new location for your content? You need to have the folder you installed to set as both a DAZ Studio and Poser Format content diectory - right-click on the headings in the Content Library pane and select Add Base Directory or Add Runtime Directory.
Thanks for that, I appreciate it. I'm trying, but its still not working. VERY frustrating. I've pointed DIM to the new D drive folder, which I've titled "DAZ3D Install Folder," both downloads and applications/programs and it seems to be putting my resources and Daz Studio there. No problems with that.
The issue is that even after setting the new content library in Daz Studio, still nothing happens. I'm going to try uninstalling and then resetting the base directory before downloading and uninstalling any content. Hopefully, that will work.
Daz, you guys really need to make installing on a drive other than C a whole lot easier.
Rob does have a script that will copy the directory set-up from DIM to DS, or vice versa with a different script - just download the script and run it with File>Merge.

Thanks, I appreciate it. Still not working. I'm not a computer neophyte so I'm (I think) understandably frustrated. For the life of me, I can't figure out why Daz would set up a system where DIM will download and install to the drive of your choice, but Daz studio (which DIM is also installing) won't automatically recognize it. It makes ZERO sense. I can manipulate Steam, any number of Corel and MS products and they all automatically "point" to the correct locations. Even my somewhat balky CAD progams (I'm a solid modeler) experience little difficulty with this. Heck, if an object is moved you just auto-regenerate. But no, not Daz.
This might be caused by something that's very easy to miss unless you look very closely — the error messages are not saying where on your D: drive the files ought to be, they're saying where in the Content folder location the files ought to be. D|S uses what's called "relative" addressing to find the files that make up your scenes and content. D|S knows where your content folders are, so everything in a file's folder path up to that point is assumed to be there. All that's needed is the relative folder address inside the content folder.
Okay, so last night I thought I had it licked. I uninstalled and reinstalled Daz Studio after running the utility that Richard referenced. Suddenly, almost everything worked. My content mostly came up, although the program ran very slowly. The only thing was that Vicky 7 and the characters and wardrobes asociated with her Pro Bundle wouldn't come up. So, I uninstalled her, re-downloaded the Vicky 7 stuff only and reinstalled it. Suddenly, NOTHING worked. No content came up whatsoever, even though DIM showed everything as downloaded and installed. I was right back where I was when this whole saga started. How changing Vicky 7 ONLY could corrupt everything is beyond me.
I may try to clear some things off of the C drive and just go back to using it, although its already fairly full, hence the reason for wanting to use the virtually empty 900+ GB D drive. Yes, I'm frustrated.
Exactly how are you doing this? It sounds a lot like the DIM content installation path and the D|S content loading path aren't the same. Can you post screenshots showing the DIM content path setting and the D|S Content Directory Manager with both Poser and D|S Formats sections clicked open?
Thanks, but I've had it.WOudl someone knwo the default install locations, etc., for the C drive? I'm just goign to reinstall it there and live with the drive size limitation.
I had the same issue as just above happen again - uninstall, reinstall, most items come up but oddly not all figures; some did, some did'nt' Odd. Wouldn't they all come up?
Whatever, Daz has tried my patience enough. I'd jst like to install to the default C drive locations and be done with this headache. Any help?
Stoopid double post!
I can't help on the defaults - I've never used them. But - let's check a few other areas.
1) Which CMS (smart content database) were you using? Valentina (shows as DAZ Content Management Service in the windows Services list) or Postgres (shows as up to 8 postgres processes in task manager when Studio or DIM are running, not present other wise)
2) "Doesn't show up" - where? Smart Content tab or Content tab? Smart content tab relies on the database above - and if you whacked everything - Valentina is no longer shipped with either Studio or DIM as it has been replaced by Postgres.
And "Uninstalling/reinstalling" - just Studio? or Studio and content? Or just content?
So - a step-by-step on setting things up: Warning - this will whack (lose) any categorization and/or database changes you may have made if you were running Valentina as the CMS!
1) Install DIM - just take the default, it's only going to use around 50 MB all up with the tracking files that get installed on the C drive as you install content.
2) Fire up DIM; click on the gear icon, top right, for the settings menu.
First, in the downloads tab, set the "Download to" Directory; in your case, "D:\dim-download" should work; while you're here, double-check the list of items to show in the available list.
Now the Installation tab; set a 32-bit and a 64-bit directory for software; I use "D:\bits-32" and "D:\bits-64" (They MUST be different!). Set at least one content install directory; in my case, "D:\s4stuff\gen5" (I used to have 18 directories; now I'm down to 4 and this is the only one DIM installs to). This directory will need to be defined to Studio (coming up next)
3) Now install Studio (just the application - we're not ready to do the content just yet) and Postges (there are several that sould be showing, but only one can be installed at any given time - so use the 64-bit PostgreSQL CMS package.
4) Now we can start Studio; click on the Content Library tab and then the Options menu (the little triangle and horizontal lines block); select Content Directory Manager. Click on the "+" by DAZ Studio Formats to expand the list. Then click on "DAZ Studio Formats" and then "Add" over to the left. Add the directory you defined to DIM as a content directory ("D:\s4stuff\gen5" for me). Select this new directory (came in at the bottom of the list) and move it to the top.
You may want a couple of additional directories - I have one for all non-DAZ content ("D:\s4stuff\3rd-party") and one for things I make/customize ("D:\s4stuff\mydata"). Add them if you wish, and move them up the list so they are next under the DIM directory.
Now repeat for the "Poser Formats" entry; you'll get a warning that no runtime was detected on the DIM directory; add it anyway. Same for 3rd-party if you decided to create it. Again, move these to the top. Click "Accept".
5) Content Database work now - so click on the Content Library tab Options menu again, and select "Content DB Maintenance". We're going to whack it. Start by selecting "Export User Data" and "Accept"; then back to "Content DB Maintenance" again. This time, select "Reset Database" and "Accept".
6) Shut down Studio.
7) Fire up DIM and install away; DIM will add the smart content to the now empty Content Database (still on the C: drive, but this is also relatively small and the speed of the SSD will pay for itself here).
8) The first time you fire up Studio, go into Content Directory Maintenance again and select "Re-import Metadata"; only select "User Data" and make sure that "User Data Overrides Product Data" is selected to re-import your changes from the Export step above.
And - to go with the above - backups!
I back up "D:\s4stuff", "D:\dim-download" and "C:\Users\Public" (gets the DIM install list); you do NOT need to back up the CMS database IF you export user data in content database maintenance any time you make a change.
