Content Library issues

I was a long time Poser user, before a 4yr break, and have a very good understanding of the library layout in it, so if need be I could find missing files or images.

I am trying to make a transition to DS. I have deleted, everything and started over with DIM, downloaded and installed all of my content here from Daz. What I ended up with is Content folders inside of library folders, inside of library folders and inside of more content folders with prop folders inside of Enviroment folders, inside of Architectural folders.. In other words, my content library is a horrendous mess. I can only find a quarter of my 120GB of content just from Daz.

My question, Can someone please show me a typical folder layout, so that I can organize this mess, and hopefully find all my content so I can give DS a chance.

That sounds a bit weirder than usual even for a vanilla DIM installation. Are you using all the default install and content locations, or did you customise anything? How much of your content (if any) shows in the Smart Content or Content Library tabs?

One thing that might help pin down the problem, can you post screenshots of DIM showing the content location settings, and D|S showing the Content Directory Management dialog with the D|S Formats and Poser Formats sections clicked open?

Note that DIM and D|S do not talk to each other about content folder locations, it is possible for DIM to install to one folder, and D|S try to read content from a different folder.

  • I have a 500GB SS main drive, so I have content installed to another drive. I have set the DIM to download and install to that drive, so I don't swamp my C drive.

In DS I cleared all library locations and set just the one for DS and a seperate one for Poser content, but half my content shows without being able to select it.

Overall I have over 300GB of content, so trying to organise it is a PITA, but if I can not get to the point where I can use all of it, I better stop spending money on this hobby.

What happens when you try to select an item?  Are there error messages?

That sounds familiar, are you looking in the Smart Content tab, or the Content Library tab?

This could be a critical (but (usually) easily fixed) difference — Content Library shows all of the content files stored on your computer, in exactly the folder arrangement as they exist on your computer, a bit like the content display in Poser. The Smart Content is different, it doesn't show a direct view of your content files, it shows a sorted and filtered view of a database of pointers to your content files. A lot of the DAZ content installers now include the metadata that goes into this database (it's added by DIM when  you install) but not all of it does yet. Also, anything you've bought or picked up as a freebie from other stores will not have this data, so it won't appear in Smart Content.

Hold on, a little light just went on. You said above, "set just the one for DS and a seperate one for Poser content" — did you set only one Content Directory Manager pointer for each? You should have the same path for each location in both the D|S Formats and Poser Formats sections, so you will end up with two paths visible in each of the CDM sections.

Well, I did it again. Removed ALL DS directories and downloads. Re-downloaded and Installed all content from Daz with the DIM. In DS cleared library directories, rescanned, found all from new install. When I open it Content library tab I can see all names of content, but there is no tile to click on, to select the article.

I'm looking at the Library content tab, my smart content has nothing.

The majority of my content doesn't have anything to click on...

Can you post these 2 screenshots:
    1) In DS, Edit > Preferences > Content Library > Content Directory Manager, expand the "DAZ Studio Formats" and "Poser Formats"
    2) In DIM, on Ready to Install tab check the "Show Details" box in the lower right

Have you made changes since the screenshot you posted here:  http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/comment/984974/#Comment_984974

    They don't seem to match.

Is it DS-format items that aren't showing, or Poser-format?  The nested content folders you have under Poser formats my be causing problems.

  • I removed the previous directory, re-downloaded and installed all Daz content to see if maybe I had changed anything. So the current DS librqary is pure DIM install.

The Poser directories is just because I had DS locate all libraries on that drive and I'm still trying to organize those files.
