Examples of beautiful women created solely in Daz Studio?

I've browsed a lot of models and it appears that many Daz Studio characters for sale here and in other stores were custom sculpted in Zbrush. Can you post pics of high quality females created solely in DS? I'd like to find out if buying morphs is what I should do or if learning to sculpt in Zbrush is the way to go.

Studio isn't really a creation tool, so technically none of them are created solely in Studio.  The various morphs that are in the morph packs are created in some modeller or in Zbrush.  Then they are compiled into groups of compatible morphs to make up the set.  So what you are getting in the morph packs are the results of custom sculpting, broken down into pieces.

Also the complete morphs...full characters can be partially 'dialed in' and combined.  So you can use them to create new, custom characters...a little Victoria, a little bit of Josie and so on.

Then there are products like the Growing Up series that 'de-age' (and the Aging series to do the opposite) that work pretty much on any character/set of morphs.

  • Really, it depends on what your goal is. Pre-made morphs are great because you can mix and match them and create dozens of new characters very quickly, without the hassle of needing to go into a modeling program to fiddle with the mesh directly to create your own. On the other hand, if there's a particular look you're going for which you can't seem to get through morphs, then you'd need to put in the extra effort.

This is one reason why I was quite happy to get the Growing Up morphs for Genesis 1 through 3. Not only do they serve as great child characters, an area which had been lacking up to that point, but they can be used to make characters of all the ages in-between as well. From softening features to making characters shorter without the need to fiddle with pesky scaling. Muscle morphs and other tonal morphs can help define features on the character as well.

Some of the promotional pictures shows these features dialled in quite heavily, but you can use a small value to make your characters fit without making them bodybuilders or Amazonian warriors. My personal favourite are the weight morphs, as it helps give a bit more girth to the overwhelming majority of slim supermodels to give a more natural look.

Just be aware that if you do decide to use Z-Brush, you should make sure subdivision is disabled for the morph export. The model can only be morphed if your morph has the same number of vertices as the base model. There is technology for making high density morphs, but it has not been released to Joe Public yet, and as it has been a while since this was available, it is likely to stay that way.
