surface shaders on new primitive

Hi all
Using this for the firs few days gave me great confidence however now I want to build some bits realise its a bit harder than I thought!!!
I ma trying to get a prmitive cube to look like brick work on teh outside. I choose the cube as a new primitive and then through the surfaces pane - presets- open the shaders section. On that I chosse the bricksetting but all that happens in my cube goes to dark grey. I know I ma doing something very simple wrong but cannot figure out what. HELP please for the newbie.
Whilst am here might as well add this. If I wanted to put 3 cubes on top of each other, but offset (ie they did no line up exactly) could i use the brick work pattern on them all but get it to fit uniformally or would I jsut have to do each separtely and suck it?
Thanks all
Chris

Brick shader is 3Delight procedural shader. Meaning, it wont work with IRay and you wont see it until you render the picture with 3Delight. So, yeah, cube turns dark gray when you apply the shader and thats it, you didnt do nothing wrong, shader is there, but you need to render the picture in 3Delight to see it.
ahh - every days a scholld day. Thanks
