saving as video file

after i have finished making my animation how do i save the movie as a video file to put it in a movie

What I do is set the render type to "image series" in iray.  This way when you hit render it renders each frame of the animation to a tiff image.  Then head into adobe premiere or after effects and import as image sequence.
