A quick GIMP postwork question.

A have a png image with a pure white background. I want to make the background transparent, so I can put the image on top of another. How do I make it transparent?

    In the 'Colors' menu, there is an option, 'Color to alpha...'.  That's the tool you need to use.  When the dialog comes up, select the white color (or whatever your background color that you want to make transparent).  Anything in the image that is that color will be converted to an alpha (transparency) channel.  Export the resulting image as whatever image type (.PNG, .JPG, whatever) you want.
