Finding missing content files

Some of my content files are missing in the content library. I can find them using Explorer, they are in the right folders. But, when I search in DAZ they cannot be found. I have tried DB management, to get rid of orphaned file references, and then had it search for files on known directories, and still nothing. I know that its there somewhere, but how do I get DAZ to find these files? I also have folders in the DAZ studio section and in the Poser format sections, that are empty! No clue why the content disappeared. I thought those folders were supposed to remain as a file reference that mimicked my actual Library structure. I have DAZ 4.8, Win7/32-bit.  I have rebuilt my library 6 times now due to screwing up where i put things, or moving things, so this current installation is strictly working with the DIM, except for freebie content, from other sites, which I carefully put in the proper folders. Thanks.

  • What files, and where exactly are they? What is the path of the content directory that holds them?

Can you post these 2 screenshots:
    1) In DS, Edit > Preferences > Content Library > Content Directory Manager, expand the "DAZ Studio Formats" and "Poser Formats"
    2) In DIM, on Ready to Install tab check the "Show Details" box in the lower right

  • Here are the two screen shots below. It is various files, some, for example: Like the DAZ Content File are empty, also, Like the DAZ Material File, are also all empty. Even though I can search in Explorer and find the files. Its random files, random places. I generally try to put DAZ files (Genesis, V4, M4, etc) files in My DAZ3d Library and Poser files (P1-5, V1-3, M1-3, Steph, Freak, Aiko, etc) in the Poser 5 Directory. But, when I search in DAZ, it often doesn't find files that I know that I installed.  I also included screen shots of the empty folders. I have changed it from searching files to searching the database, and vice versa, still with no luck. Thanks for the help.

It looks like you've got things installed to the wrong place.  The folders you have under "DAZ Materials" are Poser-format files that are normally in Runtime:Libraries:Pose.  They won't show up outside of that structure.

  • Well, most of the stuff I installed with the DIM. The rest of the stuff I installed using the zip folders the author provided or the .exe that DAZ/Poser provided. And oddly, a lot of Poser material files are saved as Pz2 or pz3, rather than mc6 and such.  Also, if I categorize files, they sometimes disappear from the top level library and only appear in the My Content Library. And sometimes things disappear from the My Content Library. So, Where do I put them if they are in the wrong place? And how do I figure out which ones go where? Since as I said, I was using the installers they provided?

  • Make sure you are isntalling to the My DAZ 3D Library folder, not the My DAZ 3D Library\DAZ Content folder.

  • Thanks for the help, I have been installing to the My DAZ 3D folder, unless it was a runtime folder specifically. Then I copy the runtime folder directly to Either Poser 5 or to the DAZ 3D Library folder, depending on whether it is Genesis content or Legacy content. But, yes, its still a mess, and I don't know how to make it any better without breaking things. So, Such is life. Thanks again for your time.

Make sure when you copy a Runtime folder that it is being merged with the existing Runtime -- if it ends up inside the existing Runtime it won't be found.
