Adding folders/files from another sites into Daz
I got a couple of female characters from Renderosity that work in Daz. One is for Victoria4 and the other works with Genesis2. I noticed I will have to manually place these folders into daz in the appropiates folders. Now I thought I did so, but they are not showing up when I open Daz.
They are zip files. I will use the Maria one as an example. I think this will be helpful for me to learn when I start 'creating' my own stuff to share, etc.
Contained in the zip when extracted is folder called 'documentation' it has the read me files and not very good instructions for placing the files. The second folder is called 'Runtime' and it contains folders called 'libraries' and 'textures'. Within those folders are more folders.
In the 'libraries' folder contains a folder called 'pose' then it has one called 'VYK_Maria' inside that folder is 3 folders called '2-Standard Mats', '3-SSS Mats', and 'VYK_Maria'. Inside those 3 folders are all the actual files.
In the 'textures' folder is a folder called 'vyktohria', then it has one called 'Maria', which then contains all the actual files.
I run windows XP for now, I may be upgrading here shortly. It seems the folder where all my daz content is called "My Daz 3D library' and inside it has folders called 'runtime', 'people', 'animals', 'enviroments', 'props', etc. I am hoping this is not too complicated. There seems to be dozens of folders inside folders for whatever reason. One day I might get it all figured out. haha!
My question is how far into the folders does a person need to go to get daz to actually 'see' the contents? I realize I need to place those files into the "runtime' file and probably into the 'libraries' and 'textures' files or so I think so.
Thanks for the help!

Just merge the Runtime folder in the ip with the Runtime folder that's under "My Daz 3D Library" (or "My Library" if you're using that). Inside DS you'll then find the product in Content Library > Poser Formats > [content library name] > Pose > VYK_Maria. There will be 3 subfolders of that folder, subfolder 1 is the morphs (shapes), subfolder 2 is the material presets. You can ignore subfolder 3, as that is probably for Poser 9+ only.
In the 2nd subfolder with the material presets, if the icons in DS have a scroll symbol in the upper left then they are already optimized for DS. If not, then you made need to adjust them to look good in DS. There's a tutorial on how to do so here: http://homepage.eircom.net/~neilvpose/tutorial-1.htm
Thanks for the reply. I tried what you suggested earlier today and got some wonkie error messages. I was like oh heck! I had some things to do for the rest of the day. I just got back home. I will take another stab at it tomorrow. If I get error messages again, I will write them down, and post them here. I could be expecting too much also. *shrugs* I consider it a learning process and it is why I opted for trying it out on a pretty decent looking 'freebie' that I didn't mind having. I would be a bit annoyed if I had spent hard cold cash to just have issues and headaches. :) I think I will look through a few more tutorials in the mean time tonight.
Thanks again. Will update tomorrow sometime on my progress or lack there of.

I think I got this all figured out now. At least I do not get any error messages andI seem to have found all my stuff too. :) Thanks again!
