in Technical Help (nuts n bolts)

i have a question  would you call  this worth the money  http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125787 or would you guys give any other reomendations that isnt a titan

    Yes, it's a 6 GB Ti...it is more than 'good' for Studio/Iray...and Gigabyte is a good brand with more than decent warranty service.  For under $700...

    A lot quicker than what?  Current card...probably if it is a lesser card.  CPU rendering...definitely.  And 6 GB is going to hold a 'decent' sized scene...

    Yes...there are more cores on the 980 so that will help some, but the extra 4 GB will keep a lot more renders as GPU renders and not drop the card.

    If your power supply could handle it, and you get that card, keeping the 960 in the system will help a lot, too...

    1. You can run all your monitors off the 960 which will free up the full 6 GB on the 980 for rendering.

    2, Scenes that will fit on the 960 will use both cards and it is the CUDA cores that get added together in a multi-card setup.

    You should ask your self how easily you bust the limit on your current card - if it's borderline (soemtiems things fit, sometimes they don't) and there isn't a lot of variation in scene complexity then going from a 2GB card (of which a chunk is sued by the system) to a 6GB card (of which an identical chunk is used by the system) may be overkill.

    ah i didnt know that but how do you make sure there isnt conflicting drivers or do i not have to worry about that

    Most of my scenes, which are not too complex, are running in the 3 to 4 GB range (that's not counting amount used by the system...) so for me a 6 GB card is the minimum I would buy.  But yes, checking the amount of memory your typical scene uses should be the first step...

    Any scene you have previously rendered will render MUCH faser with the 980TI. $650 USD is about the lowest price for a 680TI in the US.
