I was charmed by the XI town but it was AM's newest animal that jumped into my cart, https://www.daz3d.com/quoll-by-am. I had never heard of the critter but he/she is adorable. I had to Google what a Quoll is. Just don't let it bite you!

not particularly vicious, I have hand fed them

Thank you Wendy, that is wonderful to know. The impression from the Google machine emphasized the Quoll's jaw. I love little critters in fur. As I know from dealing with one of my cats, I have to be cautious as Simon loves to tease me into petting his head, and then he turns and grabs my fingers with his teeth and presses down. Not enough (generally) but to let me know who is in charge. I have to remind him I am not his chew toy and even bought him a teething ring. He ignors it.

Not sure if it was released today or just within the last few days, but it's nice to see that the forum thread 'post & view' counters are working again. Regards, Richard. Hang on, looks like it may have been a nice glitch that's cured itself. Bother.

I like this style, reminds me of Arcane on Netflix. Much more appealing than the other toon stuff I see in the store.

Really like it - great materials, but I could not figure out how to use its eye materials, so until then...

    Hi there!
In what sense? Are they not working for you?

    Hi @Censored

I have already responded in your thread:

    https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/719271/cnsrd-toon-for-mira-9-released#latest

and also has found the solution for my needs.

  • Some lovely new releases today. I especially like Jason. While I'm generally a fan of KOO's characters, Jason's textures look particularly brilliant to me.

I like the way Colm Jackson is showing the height of his new characters compared to Genesis 9 (he started a couple of characters ago):

I'm not completly convinced by the skirt of Princess' assassin outfit, but overall, it is looking great and it's easy enough to keep the overall looks and add black stocking under the skirt:

I was thinking that it would look great with pants or tights, making the "skirt" more like a tunic.

A not infrequent tweak fro me.

  • Is all that embroidery really geometry and not just texture?  That's amazing!

I love OR3D's little diorama bases released today, particularly the Ruined Watchtower . Reminds me of a little model for a model railway, just waiting to be integrated into a bigger story.

Yes! I've bought most of the older props that can be used like that out of the box. Super handy for turning characters and scenes into little roleplaying figures. All three were straight onto my wishlist.

I really like the tower too, but what is that giant window doing there, and so close to the ground? It's a watch or a defense tower, no? Why in the world would you make it so easily accessible? And seeing that the tower is supposed to be really old: What would you have put in that giant opening? -  This sort of inconsistency sadly spoils all immersion for me. But the little dioramas sure look pretty!

My own head canon is that this is a portion of a building inside defensive walls where you would have doors and windows for the person who was using the watchtower.  It would make no sense if it was an external tower but it is so narrow that one could use a battering ram on it anyway.

It seems more likely to be an old folly than a military structure.

Elena 9? No thank you. The character is pretty but I can do without the bondage and dominatrix gear.

  • tsroemitsroemi Posts: 2,877

@Elena 9 - yeah, another white young doll for naughty pics, no thanks.
@ The Tower - love the way you guys are making things work! To me, it looks like an old Irish round tower, or I would have wanted it to be.

I think with regards to the ruined watchtower & the window size, maybe some of the criticisms are a bit harsh.

In the UK, Wales in particular, many castles were built in the 1200's and early 1300's, which were continuously inhabited for 300 to 400 years. During that time the country went from 'being under hostile occupation' to 'settled and peaceful'. As the 1500's and 1600's came along the buildings were heavily modified to make them more pleasant to inhabit, which involved putting in windows where in previous centuries it'd have been unthinkable. Then come the Civil War in the mid 1600's, many of the castle owners were on the losing side, had their properties confiscated and the castles were either slighted (deliberately wrecked), simply went into wrack & ruin over the next few centuries due to lack of maintenance or were partly dismantled for aesthetic reasons to make the view from a nearby Palladian pile look more picturesque.

That's where I see these dioramas coming in: The ruined buildings being of interest after a protracted peaceful period, possibly now entering a time of instability again. Think of all the stories that could be woven around them.

    Regards,

    Richard

Did you have a 'let's rebuilt it in how we are imagining they were built back then' phase during the 19th century like we had in France ?

Violet-Leduc (mostly famous for Notre Dame) did it to a lot of place in France, including Notre Dame which he heavily modified.

+1!  Elena 9's face is a bit ordinary, but not uninteresting. Nevertheless, it's slowly becoming just too much with the young white chicks.

The character bundle is just as meh: I don't like the lingerie, the hairstyle looks boring, and I wouldn't voluntarily spend an hour in this ‘Love’ hotel, even if Lawrence 9 personally kept me company.

There may well have been bit of that with the Victorian Gothic/Gothic Revival stuff in the mid to late 1800's, but there were a lot of picturesque follies built in the 1700's and early 1800's which were often built right from new as ruins. Those were times when lots of people had more money than sense. Just like today, in some ways.

    Regards,

    Richard

Peckforton Castle is a good example, it was built in the Victorian era to resemble a medieval castle. It is a very good likeness and very complete, even including dungeons. It is not built as a ruin, but rather as it would have been when 'new'. It has been used in the past for a variety of film and television productions.

Cardiff Castle wa also a Victorian rebuild, as I recall. Castell Coch was built from scratch.

Richard, I didn't think of this at all, of course, this makes so much sense! So it's not a singular aeons-old round tower, but maybe a part of a bigger setting that was continously 'updated' throughout the decades. Got it now!

Edit: I'd still really love to have an Irish round tower one day ...

I really like Princess Petra's gothic dress (cute and elegant but not over the top) and the matching hair (looks realistic to me in that slightly messy style). But sadly, they'll go onto the wishlist for now.

Same here. Wishlisted both of them. This vendor's products look really good as far as I can see. I already bought this outfit yesterday as the buy-in for the gift card sale.
