P.I.C.K. SCI-FI BASE

I can merge a selecttion- like a wall piece, into a scene.  But- for example- when i merge a control console, it is white, and when I attempt to merge the console colors into the appropriate piece, nothing happens.

I have made sure that Surfaces is selected.  But still, nothing happens.

I also noticed that a '!' appears, in place a picture, on the tab, ..if that means anything.  I also clicked Update Metadata.

I even attempted to reshade and texture the wall console piece, and nothing happened.

 Anyone else have this problem with this item?

    PICK series was made for Poser 6, with poser materials. It's totally possible that some of the materials won't do much in DS as DS only reads very basic settings from poser materials and ignores all the settings related to poser material room nodes.

    Oh, that might explain it, thank you!

    It SAID DAZ 4.22.  but after your comment, i look more closely, and it said Poser, also.

    I DO have some software called Poser Debut, but i don't know if it runs like Poser, or is somethng else.  Sounds like an old trimmed-down version of Poser, but really, i couldn't say.

    Poser Debut was a light version of Poser 8 IIRC. 
     

    As for PICK product, like most poser products it should work in DS up to a point "as is". Materials are typically something that will require some work.

    Hi, just noticed your post.

    Yes, materials, are giving me trouble in DS.  I could see how PICK runs in Poser Debut.

    PICK also uses Poser PMD morphs, which DS can only load if it's a Poser CR2 file you are loading, PICK is mostly Poser PP2 files which means the morphs wont work.

    Poser Debut came in two versions, the original Debut 8 and Debut 10, the latter being a light version of Poser 10, and it was a free upgrade if you had Debut 8.

    Ah, too bad i didn't know that, also,  ...sooner.

    Too bad I don't know how to do something with this product in Daz, also,  ...like add some sort of texture to the blank pieces that appear in Daz.

    I could try using it on Poser Debut.  I DO have Debut.  Never tried it, yet, though.

    ...I'd have to find some time to check Debut out, and figure out how it operates.

  • I use the Pick lockers all the time in Daz, I just go to the surface tab and use a paint or metal shader on the surface I want to change. I usually use the lockers to replace all the static lockers in school corridors and such. Locker door open morphs work just fine. I couldn't find the sci fi set but I just loaded up a wall section and it has all kinds of material zones so if you have some architectural type shaders, you should be able to do pretty much anything you want with it.

    I'll have to try that again, when I have time.   I would like that Pick Sci-Fi Base to work in Daz.  ...if it can.

  • The same merchant also makes a Daz-specific version of this product, called DS.I.C.K., which I've bought.  My one main gripe with that one is that the included shader presets seem to only change the colors visibly in 3DLite, they all show the same white-ish in Iray regardless of what preset you add ... but its not hard to simply apply any arbitrary iray shader on it, surface by surface. But it also had the annoying issue that the various modules are scattered all over the place in Props instead of all being in one place (but I solved that by manually moving them all to their own subdir in props, a fairly simple fix.)

    I did buy one of the other P.I.C.K. products, though, but that one relied on Poser's scripting system to position the modules (which... doesn't work in Daz Studio.  laugh ), and relatedly had the coordinates sliders removed from the Parameters pane, so I had to go turn on Show Hidden Properties to get at those.  More of a minor nuisance factor, that,

    That said, I'm pretty satisfied with DS.I.C.K. Sci Fi Base, and would love to see the rest of the P.I.C.K. products converted over to Daz versions.
