DIM will not install on Windows 11

Hi all,

I did a fresh reinstall of Windows 11 and I now cannot install DIM. When I install I get random error each time I try. Sometimes I get nothing, it just will not install. I have checked other program installers and they work fine, it is just DIM that will not install.

Any ideas> (Thanks in advance).

I started using Win11 since Oct of last year, there was no installation issue of DIM.

    - any unicode-character in you Windows account name ?
    - your Windows account belongs to ADMINISTRATORS ?

    1. No Unicodes

    2. It is my Admin Account

I did try to reinstall DIM on my computer before I did a fresh install of Windows 11. The reason I did a fresh install of Windows 11 is DIM was doing the same thing (all of a sudden, no issues before) on my system.

I have tried about everything I can think of (Experienced Windows and Daz User), to no avail.

(Edit): Thank you by the way for your assistance!

What error messages is it giving you?

Is it Blue Screening? Bad RAM will cause blue screens for seemingly random errors each time.

Do you have the Windows 11 Smart App Control locked down. By default it is in 'Evaluation' mode but if turned on it might cause troubles.

Is you storage magnetic with bad sectors.

Multiple Errors, different each time I try to install. Many are "TK" or "Namespace" related, so I installed Python to see if it would help... it did not. Sometimes, when I try to install, A blank window appears with the name of the install file as the header.

I have also run chkdsk (for Hard Drive) and checked my memory integrity, all are good. I have no other issues installing other programs, just DIM.

I have got to tell you all, I am stumped...

EDIT: I shut off Smart App Control, no difference/it did not work. I am not getting BSoD's, the file just throws errors or does nothing when I try to install it. I am using an SSD Drive.

EDIT 2: I was able to find a download file for DazCentral. I installed DazCentral, no issues. I was able to install DazStudio with Central. I still cannot install DIM. Any assistance is welcomed.

The DIM installer could be messed up. Have you tried a fresh copy?

I have, about 15 times in fact.

I am guessing it is an issue with Windows 11 I have have uncovered somehow. I tried going in to the Command Prompt, Powershell, and the Registry... to no avail. I keep my Windows 11 updated on the cutting edge (without using Insider) and I am thinking a new update on Windows may have broken my ability to use the DIM installer.

Thank you for the suggestion however... and I mean that. It is awesome to see such helpful people in the DAZ community. smileyheart

    EDIT: Spelling Error

    SOLVED!

I re-registered my Windows 11 .dll files, and fixed my .exe entries in the Registry... and it finally worked!

Thanks for all the assistance here. smiley

Which .dll file to be exact ? And how did you fix that ? It'll be great that you share your solution so that other folks may benefit from it if they have the same issue ~

I used a program called "FixWin" to re-register ALL of my .dll's. There is a selection that enables you to re-register all Windows .dll's.

Re-registring all your .dll's is the best way to go. It takes about 20 min, then your Windows is like a fresh install. Even better really, as it will even repair broken .dll's occuring in a fresh install of windows.

The exe registry tricks I pulled I do not feel comfortable releasing. If you don't know what you are doing, you WILL mess up your WIndows to an irrepairable state. If you want to try, just google "how to register exe files in Windows 11 registry" but I recommend only experienced Windows users do it.

    Hope that assists someone! smiley
