How to get bought character to parameters
Hello everyone,
I bought two characters, one from DAZ which I installed using the DIM and the other from Renderosity which I installed manually.
Both characters and all their materials are installed and I can use them in the content library.
But for some reason only the one I bought from DAZ shows up in the bottom right menu (Parameters, Shaping etc).
Does anyone have any idea why the other character is not there? Not the character itself and also not its materials, morphs, etc.
Of course I could use all these things from the Content Library, but unfortunately I can't mix characters there.
I have two full characters installed, but only one has this regulator (see attached).
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance and best regards

Which character from Renderosity? It's possible that whoever made the character didn't make sliders for it, just apply/remove presets.
... and you should know the name of the characterthat you bought from Renderosity, have you tried filtering by that name in Parameters pane ? like what I show in the attached screenshot ~~
siiozz955 At the Left Hand Pane in Daz Studio, there are several categories.
In there you can look whatever you want to use from Genesis (1) to Genesis 9.
Most are nested under their respective Generaration, say you are looking for Characters from Genesis 8, these should be under Genesis 8 Male or Genesis 8 Female.
The same can be done for other Genesis assests.
Also under these categories you should find Clothing, Poses and so on.
With rare circumstances where the artist place these items in a non-default category.
It happened to me recently when I bought some poses for Genesis 8, these went somewhere else, instead of Genesis 8 Female/Male entries.
Also, I did a search for the character you posted in the screencap

I don't have that, maybe Godig will help you with that.
Meanwhile see the captured image.
From your first screenshot, it looks like you have Real World selected. Are you sure that that's how Chantel was categorized? The product page for Chanel indicates that it has morph dials. Try selecting just People, or even Actor, and search like Crosswind suggested.
If they don't show up in the Shaping tab then the morphs weren't created correctly, check under "Morphs/MorphLoader" as odds are that is where they are.
I see that you've already loaded 3DL Chantel into the Scene... If you selected Curently Used, can you find some dialed morph properties ?
First of all, thank you so much for your help! I am really blown away by this great community! DAZ is really not easy for a newbie, but you guys make it possible!
I have now tested again and actually found Chantel's morphs. Both with Currently Used and with Filter. The problem seems to be that she doesn't have a complete morph, just a separate head and body. That's why I couldn't find her in People. The whole body would be easier, but in the end it makes no difference.
One idea I have now would be to simply drag the complete morph I have in my Contect Library into the folder for the parameters, surface, etc.
Would that be possible? Or are these special files? And where would I find that folder? By the way - what is the "bottom right menu" actually called? :D
One last point: As you can see in the second screenshot, I still can't find the materials. But since I also have them in my Contect Library, the idea here would be to drag them into the "Bottom right menu" folder as well. If there is one :D
But I can see there's a full character control property in ReadMe file on the product page (ss1). You still could not find it by filtering Chantel while having All selected ?
As for the idea, nope, you can only drag them to the figure rather than Parameters list... What do you mean by bottom right menu ?
As for the last point, uncheck Filter by Context in screenshot 2.
As you can see in screenshot 1, selecting All does not work either.
Maybe this file is the full character morph from the content library (see screenshot 2) and is not for parameters?
The thing is that I want to have the full character in the parameters so I can use this slider to mix the character.
As you can see in screenshot 3, the materials are not there even without the check mark. Although they are also available in the Contect library.
By "bottom right menu" I mean the menu/settings at the bottom right of DAZ where parameters, shaping, surface, etc. are listed. I can customize the left side of DAZ, which contains the content library, with the folders in Public Documents -> DAZ3D, and thus create subfolders myself and decide where which materials etc. are to be found. I was hoping that the menu on the bottom right, i.e. what is displayed in the subfolders in parameters, could also be customized in this way.
Nope, that DSF file: 3DL_Chantel_figure_ctrl_Character.dsf locates in data folder, so it should be the characters' full control dial. You can find and attach the file in here, we may easily find why...
However, even if this property slider shows in Parameters list, you better use Head and Body morph to custmize your characters(s) rather than using a "Control Dial".
As for material presets, it depends on the file names of the presets... if there's no string of "Chantel" in Material Presets, you'll find nothing related to "Chantel"... dbl-check them. And in your 3rd screenshot, I notice that you didn't select anything in the list...You need to at least select Materials.
As for "bottom-right menu" , they're not "menus" but "Paths", which means : where the Properties (sliders) are assign to, for better grouping and browsing. Technically, you can freely define the paths in Parameter Settings, as long as you understand the rules.
G8 had a very long run, while G9 is the current figure, so there is more content available for G8, and you can usually get it for cheaper than G9 content, but very little new content is being released for G8 at this point. The most important question is which generation suits your needs better? Spend some time playing around with both generations and see which one you would prefer working with. Is the unisex mesh of G9 attractive to you, or would you prefer separate male and female like in G8? Which generation is easier to pose, has better expressions and so on?
siiozz955 Something I learned while using Daz Studio.
You need to start Daz Studio by double-click the icon in Windows Desktop.
After loading, head at the left pane.
Go to Genesis 8 Female, double-click the icon.
It will load the base figure, then at the right pane go to the Parameters Tab.
From there, in this example I give you, I have typed Zhi; the morph will appear, if there are more than one it will be displayed too.
Ah ha... folks always overlook something. You're 100% correct. We checked the product link above but that was for Genesis 9. Actually what you bought is this : https://www.renderosity.com/marketplace/products/165156/3dl-chantel-for-genesis-8-females
In its ReadMe, there's no full character control morph property. (ss1)
As for material issue, yes, my bad. People sometimes take things for granted... haha ~~ What can be filtered in Surface pane > Preset tab has to be based on Metadata. This product is from Renderosity, you must have just dumped the files into your Daz Libary rather than installing it with some tools ( Content Wizard ), so there's no metadata at all. Then you have no way to find material presets there other than Content Library ~~
Thank you all for your helpful responses!
To summarize:
I need to make sure that the characters have a "full character morph", but I don't necessarily need it since it's better to work with the "head morph" and "body morph" anyway.
Also, I can't just drag and drop the folders into my DAZ Library, because then the materials will only show up in the DAZ Contect Library. But here I have a question, the head morph and the body morph also appear in the parameters, even though I only dragged Chantel's folder into the library? So why not the materials? And is it better to use the mentioned installation tool? To be honest, I didn't even know it existed. I just found the drag and drop method all over the internet.
As for Genesis 8 vs. Genesis 9, I'll probably play around with both first, even though it sounds more difficult to have a unisex mesh. But I'll have to give it a try :)
siiozz955 Under Genesis 8 Female, there are several entries below it, you can locate the Materials.
This is not hard to miss it.
Now about Genesis 9, while is supposed to be unified, it can be separated by using a nifty utility called: Insta-Load Genders, Female and Male for Genesis 9 (G9) in Daz Studio by Winterbrose
Get it: https://www.renderosity.com/freestuff/items/93451/insta-load-genders-female-and-male-for-genesis-9-g9-in-daz-studio
Absolutely right, especially for the folks who always customize character by mixing morphs... For instance, to me, that full control morph property is totally useless, I never use it 'cause I just customize a char by mixing head morphs and partial body morphs.
In fact they're different things... and work in different ways. What you get from Parameters pane are direclty loaded from data folder where morph files (geometry data) locate. But what you get from Surfaces pane > Preset tab are all from cms database. They're either Material Presets or Shader Presets that come from Products you bought... and can only work on Surfaces. However, the prerequisite of showing them there is that you need to install the Products with metadata. The products you bought in Daz3D store were installed by DIM with metadata, but the products you bought from other stores were just dumped into your Daz Library, so there's no metadata. You either manually create Products with metadata for them or INSTALL them with Content Wizard which can automatically generate metadata for you.
