Can An Object Be Transparent For Light ONLY?

I'm trying to set up lights for a room. if I remove the ceiling, the lighting is perfect... but then I have no ceiling. Put the ceiling back, it blocks the light.

Is there a setting where the ceiling will be in the scene but allows light to pass through it as if it wasn't there?

Thanks

    PARAMETERS: "Cast Shadows: [OFF]"

    When selecting an object.

That should let light pass through, but it will still iluminate, be translucent, and accept shadows. Unless those are turned-off in the MATERIALS settings.

but that will only work for 3delight or Iray Interactive (not Photoreal) rendering mode.

It appears to work only for 3Delight, not Iray.
