A little Confused, Here

So, I am using v4.9 and I noticed that the default content directory is C:/myusername/documents/My DAZ 3D Library and the same for DAZ Connect except it is C:/myusername/documents/DAZ 3D/Studio/My DAZ Connect Library.  DIM recommendation for the content directory and the one that it has been installing too is C:/Users/Public/Public Documents/My DAZ 3d Library.  So I have two content directories.  Which one should I be using?  I do not think that having two spelled out in the content directory is that efficient.  frown

There is no 'efficiency' penalty to having multiple mapped directories...and you should be using all 3 (and make sure all 3 are mapped in the Content Directory Manager) or you will be missing part of your content.

A very high number of content dirctories might have a noticeable effect - when DS is getting a file from a relative path ("\Rutnime\Textures\Some folder") it tries adding each content directory path in turn to the relative path until it finds the file or runs out of directories.

Many...I've had as many as 10 with no hit (and that was spread over 3 drives)...not sure what the limit it is, but it is more than two or three, before you start to see a slow down

So, I will go back to my original question.  Where is the content directory supposed to be in DAZ? Under the username/documents/My DAZ Studio or user/public/public documents/My DAZ Studio Library?  I can merge one into the other if I knew which one was the correct path.indecision

Yes, that is proper for it to be BOTH places...Studio has one and DIM is the other.

    No, don't merge them

You should keep DIM and other content separate.  So, you could install store content, through DIM to the DIM one and manual/other site/freebie content to the Studio one.

Where is the content directory supposed to be in DAZ?

DAZ|Studio doesn't really go in for "supposed to be" — it's completely flexible in how you set up pretty much everything, from the UI layout to the content folder locations. If everything works, and you can see and load all your content, that's where it's supposed to be.

FWIW, now that the new system appears to be up and running, there are now three possible content folder locations; the DAZ Connect default, the DIM default, and the "everything else, including freebies and content from other stores" default. This last one used to be the old D|S default, before DIM was introduced.
