Copying weight maps from one figure to another

Hi there,

 

I am currently trying to copy the weight map from one figure to another but I am running into some issues. I can copy the desired map but I can’t seem to paste it onto the target figure; the paste option is grayed out. I checked to make sure that the join is not locked for editing but that darn paste option is still grayed out. Has anyone had any success in coping the weight map of a joint from one figure and pasting it onto another figure?

The usual method would be to use the Transfer Utility. If the geometry is different then the weights, which are associated with the vertices in order, couldn't be copied in any other way.

Thank for the response Richard. I am back at it trying to rig a 4 arm character but wanted to minimize the amount of weights I would need to paint by copying and pasting.
