OOT Strand Based Hair - can't apply material

Hi all,

I posted on reddit which I'll link below which has a screenshot (and some troubleshooting ideas from others which haven't worked). Basically I bought OOT Strand-Based Behind Ears Hair (https://www.daz3d.com/dforce-strand-based-behind-ear-style-bob-hair-for-genesis-9) a few weeks ago but never got around to using it until a couple of days ago.

When I try to apply a colour to the hair, only the skullcap changes colour and the actual hair remains grey. I've tried tweaking settings in the surfaces tab however I can't get anything to work. It's the only hair product in my library that is behaving this way. The result is the same in full render as well as preview.

I'm using DS 4.22, Nvidia drivers are up to date and the hair has been uninstalled and reinstalled a couple of times.

I'd be really grateful if someone could point me in the right direction to fix this please!

Many thanks,

    Have you tried to render?

For strand based hair the viewport color is independant from the render color.

Yes I've tried a full render and the hair still appears grey, exactly like in the preview render.

Are you using the hair on Genesis 9 or another figure? Is the hair parented to Genesis 9 (the root figure node, not the head)? The presets are H(ierarchical) Materials, so the correct parenting is required.

Thanks for your reply - I can confirm I am using the hair on Genesis 9 and the hair is parented to the G9 root, I was using a custom G9 character but have attempted to reload using base G9 to check whether the error persists, which it does:

Check the end of the log file (Help>Troubleshooting>View Log File) just after applying a preset to the hair. Are there any errors or warnings?

Which version of 4.22 are you using? The omni shader requires 4.22.0.16 or later so if you're on 0.15 or earlier the materials won't apply as no shader exists in the software to accept them. You'll be able to see the hair (which will look white/grey-ish) but that's about it. If you do have a version >= 4.22.0.16 I have no idea what could be causing this.
