Questions about these new toon features

I think that I kno the answer but in order to use this new toon stuff, do we need to purchase new characters, hair, accessories, shaders, environments, etc., to create this toon world or is it just a different render engine which will work with existing characters and accessories?

Different render engine. Well the same Filament renderer with some new settings and using new shaders that are in the Daz Studio Default Resources. So you can easily rework most existing content into Filatoon style. The new products just come set up that way out of the box.

You don't have to buy newly-released toon characters, hairs, wearables, etc. ~ The Filatoon shaders are provided in DS 4.23 and G9 Starter Essentials, so you can apply the new shaders to the products you own (not all... some products will work badly with Filatoon), plus necessary tweaking, then render with Filament drawstyle.

I was able to put the shader on a 24 year old model (the very early octopus) and it looked great. You should be able to use it on just about anything, I think.

One of the really exciting things about FilaToon, IMO, is it's an opportunity to revive old 3dl content that had trouble keeping up with extreme photorealistic goals.

It's a shader package. You can aply it to any surface.

Only the character and her hair are new.

I'd play more with this, but new MechWarrior dropped and I'll be away from Daz for a while.

Will it work on G1. I have a lot of G1 toons.

    It will apply to anything.

  • The Filatoon shader works across the board BUT the actual toon style assets, notably the hair, achieve the best stylized looks.

You'll find its very friendly towards older models, especially older hair, like stuff that was made with Hitomi and Hiro 5 in mind.

The main thing is, you need a Windows platform. Mac OS can't use this yet.

Why can I get an Apple laptop with a 8 terabyte drive but the biggest size drive for a windows laptop is 1 terabyte? I have to go to a desktop if I want a larger drive. I have two external drives handing off of my laptop and all of it is for DAZ alone.

Here's a Windows laptop with a 4TB hard drive that is quite reasonably priced: https://www.newegg.com/p/1TS-001A-0AY54
