NVIDEA Iray renderer and lighting?

I've been playing around with the NVIDEA Iray renderer and have odd behavior with lighting. Basically, the renderer is completely ignoring the lights I set up in my scene and always renders with a distant light in upper forward left of the screen. The 3Delight renderer works fine. Is this a known property of the Iray engine? Maybe my laptop has too feeble an accelerator?

Sounds like you may not have your environment settings correct or you are getting just the camera headlamp.

If you are trying to render 'scene' lights and have 'dome' only, then you won't get the scene lights you've added or if you have 'dome and scene', the lights may be set too dimly.  These settings are found in the Environment tab...

You could also have the tonemapping set to default...which if you are using scene only may end up being way too dim.  It's like the camera/film speed settings.  It's basically set to handle a bright sunny day.
