DS 101: How to keep smart content category list open

davesodaveso Posts: 7,006

This is a real brain fart, but all of a sudden my category listing is closed when launching DS. I know there is a setting to keep it open, but I'm sure not finding it.
The images show current opening, with all categories collapsed... and the second how I want it when launching DS

I'm also interested in this. It would be nice to have it be open when DAZ Studio is launched.

The root cause of this "issue" is that one non-default Category (Light Sets) was assign to some of the asset item(s). The default behavior of having two (or more...) root categories in Smart Content is that it auto-collapse the tree of Categorie.

Deleting that non-default Category (and then reassign the asset to a Category under Default...) will solve it.

thanks...now, how to find what shouldn't be there and how to reassign?

This set was doing that to me, I went in and recategorized all the parts. Am away from my PC so I can't make a step by step, but if someone else hasn't I'll try to write one up Monday.

You select the Category: Light Sets, you'll see the relevant Product(s) on the right, then click into the product(s) and chase down to the asset item. Right-click > Categorize... to reassign a Default Category to the item,

Then go back to the Root tree, right-click on Light Sets > Show Category in Content Library. With Light Sets select, right-click > Delete.

thanks..wow, I know I'm pretty dense, but I have no idea what you;re saying here. I'm in Smart Content. I see the extra Light Sets category. I open it and there is the main thing, SY Starry Sky ...then I click the triangle and several more items open.  I'm not understanding what you're say is the "asset", as there appears maybe thare could be more than one? I do not see anything that says categorize, Only something about a path ... but I have no clue what that would be. I'm assuming when you say root tree you;re in Content Library, and you're deleting that entire category? I might just do that and be gone with that Starry night Product. Would that work?

I don't have that product so I simulated a case like that... as the attached screenshots.

thanks agan. You're going way above here. I tried what you posted, and it seemed to work, but now I have just suceeded in deleting the stray light sets category. DS is opening now the way I want it. Think I'll just not install that product again.

Yep, deleting the category directly is a straight-forward way only there's no category assigned to those items. Uninstalling the product will also do... if you don't need it anymore.

I've only used it a couple of times. I might try again in the future to install it. I bought a plugin awhle back that assigns things to correct places or something like that. Can't remember the name, but I'll figure that out and give it a go. Thanks again.
