Hi guys,
So i've decided to get a newer graphics card to have slightly better VRAM capacity till pascal is released.
Now the GTX 970 looks a good deal but I can't seem to figure out what will happen in Iray renders when the 3.5gig limit for fast
VRAM access i used up.
Will the performance of the card drop drastically or it does speed of VRAM does not matter that much for IRAY?
If the performance does drop off will it still be faster than CPU IRAY renders?
I've looked everywhere but can't seem to find a consistant answer especially with regards to IRAY.
thanks

Nothing...a 970 has 4 GB of memory. Speed of the memory isn't that important. Where the split matters is for thngs that are changing multiple times a second, not things that are roughly static for seconds/minutes at a time.
some reposts state that when the 970 hits the 3GB thershold it can "stutter"

The 970 and lower cant directly access all 4GB, but they can access it all inderectly, so not an issue for rendering.
Gaming...for rendering it doesn't matter. If it 'stutters' for a fraction of a second (somewhere around a 1/30 of a second) during a 5 minute render would anyone really notice?
Most other things will either be in it's memory long enough to not matter or are being buffered...
