Iray not available in DS 4.9 (32-bit)
After two less-than-inspiring attempts to install DS 4.9 on other computers, I finally decided -- in the ultimate triumph of 'hope over experience', to attempt an install of the 32-bit version of DAZ Studio 4.9 on my primary machine -- the one that also holds my content library. Because I am not going to clobber my working version of 4.8 (64-bit), by taking a flier on a new version that has demonstrated itself to be less than..., well, let's just say, less than adequate. (For the other machines, my content library references in DS point to an external device; I was working on the assumption that the physical location of my libraries might actually matter.)
I got a reasonably-successful install: most of my content is visible, although some of it appears in the Smart Content tab, but is not 'Installed', and a surprisingly large proportion was found in the 'Lost and Found' category. Okay, I can deal with that; it's a serious pain in the never-mind-precisely-where, but I am nothing if not adaptable. (Here's hoping that bug -- and it's a bug, make no mistake about that; if the content is already installed, DS 4.9 should see it, and be able to use it; that's what DAZ promised, and they really need to deliver on that promise -- gets fixed, and soon.) So, I'll adapt. For now.
But here's the problem.
I can download and install the encrypted, DAZ-Connect-only content without issue. What I cannot do is to render a scene using Iray -- because Iray is not listed as an option in the 'Render Engine' drop-down in the Render Settings pane.
Actually, I can't render a scene at all; even in 3DLight, DS unceremoniously crashes. Occasionally, it will throw an error, but that's about a fifty-fifty proposition, at best. (The next time it happens, if it does throw an error, I promise I'll capture the crash dump and submit a ticket. I was just pressed for time, had to get to work, so I just blew it off.)
Anyway, here's the question..., is Iray just not implemented in the 32-bit version of DS 4.9? Or is there some bit of arcana that I'm overlooking? I've checked the 'Installed plug-ins' option on the Help menu, and nothing referencing Iray is listed.
So what's the prolem here? (The 'No Iray' problem, not the others; they're a different issue entirely.)
Comments
Iray is only 64-bit, Nvidia doesn't produce a 32-bit version. You could install the beta 4.9, that's designed not to interfere with the release version.
Thank you for the rapid response to my question.
Okay, I'll try the beta -- again (although the last time I installed it, the result was, once again, rather less than confidence-inspiring; but, in the true spirit of 'hope over experience'...).
The 3DLight issues, we can deal with later.
Again, thank you.
(Once more into the breach...! Thank God for the hotel's free wi-fi!)
