Beta Crashes!!!! Anyone else???? A fix perhaps???

I've had a long-term issue with Beta crashing everytime I use it if i don't promptly shut it down myself after a short use - So, listed below is some of how this typically goes down;

- It opens fine, creates new work fine, opens saved files and content absolutely fine...

But then, if I switch back to Daz to work on another file/job and do this for a short while, when I go back to Beta it tends to suddenly jam a little, sometimes to the extent of me having to close with task manager, on occasion even culminating in a full system restart (more rare, but it happens).  This in itself is inconvenient...

This happens regardless of my activity with other software, just a typical use case would be switching between Daz and Daz beta...

It also happens if I just stay in Beta or use Beta alone, the length of time it 'lasts'/stays open between occurances is varied, although it is never a long time that it 'survives'/stays open for...

However, the biggest problem with this is that it won't reopen at all until I restart my computer, obviously this makes it a pretty major inconvenience, it's actually repeated that many times now, that ultimately I can only use one instance of Daz which is just not how I like to work at all.  I like to switch between two projects so I see the other one fresh having worked on the other, much like flipping your canvas if you're a digital painter or when you work on post in PS or whatever, I just believe I genuinely get better results whilst flitting between two projects, I would love to be able to open even more at once.

I've had this problem for a long time now, so its none-specific to a particular update or driver...

Has anybody else had this problem?

Anybody know how I might fix this?

I can't put into words just how much of a help it would be to get this sorted, honestly it's fully and absolutely hindering my workflow and my productivity level...

Oh, if I leave it open it just crashes/closes itself (after a varied length of time) and it also crashes mid-render a lot of the time too, to the point that I don't often/virtually never render in beta at all now...

Also, nothing is written about the software closing down in the log file when this happens, there is never a temp render file either, that also disappears if it crashes mid-render or  before the render is manually saved...

This sounds like symptoms of an early version of the Heat plugin. Do yo have that installed in the Beta Daz Studio?

  • can it be installed in one and not the other?  I did have the heat issue and fixed it or so I thought, at least in Daz main...   Can it still be spoiling my beta experience?

    Thank you...

Yes, plugins are stored in different folders for General Release and Beta. If you install plugins with DIM, I think thay should generally be installed to both General Release and Beta. If you did any manual intervention to remove a plugin, you may have removed it from ony one place. It is possible to have different plugins in each release channel, or different versions of those plugins. If you aren't actively using Heat, I recommend that you completely uninstall Heat from both with DIM.

In each version of Daz Studio, go to Help>About Installed Plugins. Look through the list for the Heat plugin. Is it in both General Release and Beta? If so, are they the same version of the plugin?

I'll check out beta when I can restart my computer, I'm currently rendering in Daz GenR...   ...I am certain that I removed Heat with DIM though because I couldn't use either version back then, I was just thankful it was identified quickly here as I had no idea at the time.

Thank You for this regardless and perhaps there was some discrepency that has affected Beta going forward...

  • Hey @barbult!  Thank You so much!!!  It was related to Heat, I didn't even realise it was hanging on in Beta!  It's now working and has been since the day after your last comment, you are a real help and I appreciate it greatly!

    Take care my friend...

That's wonderful news! Thanks for taking the time to follow up on the results.
  • I'm also suffering beta crashes as well, although in my case is after updating the Default Resources for 4.23 (I'm using Mac.) where I attempt to boot the program up and it immediately crashes after Auto Rigger. I don't know what really is the problem.
