Is there a setting to force the Spot Render tool to use the active camera dimensions ?

Hello,

For a long time, I though the spot render tools could only work in the viewport but I recently discovered I was wrong (it's great to be wrong sometime laugh). Now that I learned about using it in a New Windows in the Tool Settings panel, I'm using it all the time to only render the spots where some small problems needed some fixes but as far as I know (which is not that far blush) the spot render tool is using the global render settings which means the spot render may not have the correct aspect ratio and correct resolution if there is a difference between the camera and the general render settings.

Does someone know if there is a setting somewhere I have missed, that could tell the spot render tool to use the active camera dimensions ?

If it's usefull, I'm seeing this behavior in Daz Studio 4.23.

    Well, if you check the info. of Spot Render plugin, it says "...this plug-in provides a viewport tool that allows you to click and drag a rectangular marquee..."... so I don't think it has any advanced function linked to dimension settings no matter in camera or render settings. cool

    I was going to comment that this has always worked for me but then re-read it and realised that you can set specific dimensions on the actual camera which I didn't know before!

    Spot Render plugin is just a "free drag" which has no way to respect the defined dimension or aspect ratio in Render Settings or local dimension in a Camera... "what you drag is what you get" ?

    It does if you use the new window mode - you get an image that is the same size and dimensions as your render with the parts outside the marquee area being transparent (providing you save as PNG). That way you can exactly overlay on top of your render in Photoshop (or other image application) to "patch" a mistake/error in your render.

    Yes it does, but I think it should respect the dimensions and aspect ratio set for the active camera and doing so feels like the most logical choice: why should someone who have set the dimension of their renders into the camera parameters had to set the same settings into the general renders settings, possibly having to change them multiple time if they had various cameras with the dimensions set to On.

    If my render settings are set to produce a 1:1 2250 x 2250 picture, while my active camera is set to produce a 6:7 3600 x 4200 picture, doing a full picture render will use the later, doing a spot render will use the former.

    So if I'm doing a spot render just to change the expression of a character, planning to merge the sport render with the initial render in Affinity Photo, it won't work (at least without upscaling the spot render which create very visible difference between the spot render and the rest of the render): my spot render will produce a 2250 x 2250 picture while my initial render is a 3600 x 4200 picture.

    As an example, for a recent render ('Before going out'), I did a spot render before remembering to change the general render settings, and it's the result (converted to JPG):

    It's a 2250 x 2250 picture.

    Once the general render settings are set to 6:7 and 3600 x 4200, the spot render will produce a 3600 x 4200 picture and it'll be possible to merge it flawlessly into the initial render (at least if the spot rendered area is covering every element that what modified by the change done since the initial render).

    Another spot render for the same render, this time after I remembered to set the general render settings 'correctly':

    This time, it's a 3600x4200 picture and it merged nicely into the main render (the one in the gallery, at least I think it's this spot render that I merged in: I did two to correct problems around the shoes, and one was too small and didn't cover enough of the shadow projected by the shoes).

    The first time I had a problem with the spot render (a week or two ago), I didn't understand why the spot render didn't have the correct aspect ratio and thought I did something wrong while selecting the area to spot render and it took me some time before understanding that the spot render was not using the dimensions set at the camera level.

    Hence my question is: is there a way to make the Spot render use the active camera settings ?

    Edit: the pictures should be a bit better with a gray background.

    I got what you mean. You are right~ Spot Render doesn't work with local dimension set on a Camera.

    I don't think there's any way to do it, other than temporarily changing the global dimensions to be the same as the camera settings, then changing them back again after you've done your spot render. It's a pain, but not as much pain as re-rendering the whole image when you only really want a small patch.
