I want to lighten the scene, I am not sure how to do it properly

Hello Crosswind or anyone else.

Here is the problem I have.

I am using this Environment https://www.daz3d.com/timeless-loft

My characters do not look well, I wanted to increase the lighting output to 6500K with no luck

In the screenshot you can see how bad is the scene, (Not the one I am working, but this one is almost similar in look)

I tried to put a lamp closer to the people, nothing works.

I have some lights at the Left pane, I don't know which one can do a proper job.

Please guide me, I have a project I need to finish.

I have tried other environments with Windows (does not matter if that is closed or open windows) the lighting is causing me some headaches I can't get the best result out of that.

Thanks beforehand for your help.

  • If doing the rendering process, the final image will look a bit dark.

I want to look crisp for the final output when printing the final image

Well, my friend, some settings in this product are not properly set... I suggest some quick tweakings as below:

    1) in Render Settings, set Env. Mode to Dome and Scene (default is Dome Only so interior is pretty dark)

    2) Add some lights as you wish. I just used two spotlights in the below example.

    3) set value 2 in cm^2 Factor in Tone Mapping

The settings should also work for a night scene...

What type of lights I can use?

I had tried some that reflect the lighting to the window, this gives me a bad impression something is not right.

Also, if you see the female character, the sleeves are a bit larger than the arm, covering the hands.

This is the product I used https://www.daz3d.com/dforce-hnc24-casual-jacket-outfit-for-genesis-9

I like the design, I planned to use on a character, I can't find a way to reduce the sleeves size.

I am scratching my head in disbelief.

Waiting for your wise advice my friend

I most of time just use Spotlights but it's up to your preferences.... Better avoid the lights being reflected on specular surfaces by tweaking the lights' postions, or you can use ghost lights if there're too many specular surfaces in the scene. But this scene is simple...

As for the long sleeves on that jacket, it's by design... Do you have Mesh Grabber... or know some modeling software like Blender ?  For example, push the sleeves up by using Mesh Grabber... or tweak it in Blender and import the shape as a morph.

I don't have Mesh Grabber (I believe this product was available for previous Daz Studio Versions)

And the current one is offered to the Premier users sad

Blender is an esotheric program that is hard to climb up, not like the average graphic program you can use without fear of being lost in an ocean of uncommon navigations

Mesh Grabber 3.0 is still on sales and they work in both DS 4.23 and older versions. Mesh Grabber 4.0 in DS 4.23 has quite a few bugs... I reported for times but there's been no fix so far. I've already unscribed Premier.

Blender is a great tool, and for free, IMO ~~ I've been using it for nearly two years, so far so good.... but maybe it's not suitable for everybody ~~~ cheeky

  • Mesh Grabber Bundle is quite expensive, I have put that in my wish list.

I have got some blender Tutorials in PDF format, but it gives me some snooze.

Unless there are some good video tutorials I am willing to learn that

Or, you can shrink the sleeves by using a Dformer or simulation with dForce + a weight node. That'll require some techniques and effort...

Have you turned the Emissive settings on for the bulbs in the scene. Looking at the features there is a .duf file included to do that.

  • crosswind So I have to shrink the sleeves with Dformer? I hope this could solve the oversized sleeves, and I want to be easy as a pie.

Fishtales Glad to see you around, Emissive settings? hope to find that one.

If there is a .duf file this could be treated as a file that opens in Daz Studio.

Should I locate that in some Daz 3D subfolder in Windows explorer and run it in Daz?

Well, this situation puts me in limbo, hope this is not tedious to do that.

    Any ideas in particular?

The file for the lights should be in the folder for the Timeless Loft. Just double clicking on it should turn on the lights in the scene. If not then go to the scene tab, select the lights, go to the surface tab, select the lights and scroll down to the Emissive slider and change the colour to white which will turn on the lights, it also opens the light settings which can be adjusted if needed. You might need to render the scene to see the lit scene properly as using the Iray option in the viewport sometimes doesn't show the lights in all their glory :)

You don't have to ... but that could be an option since you don't have other tools. However, using D-Former or dForce will be cumbersome even if you know the techniques. Well, I made two morphs for you by using Blender which is much easier. Pls download the attached file and extract the data folder to your Daz Library where you installed the product. Reload the jacket and dial them as per the screenshot 1. These morphs should've been made by the vendor ~~ devil

As for the emissive lights. All the emissive lights on the ceiling are all on, however, they are pretty far from the location where your characters stay...though they have pretty high Lumen. I still suggest you use 2-points or 3-points spotlights which'll be easier and give you good effect. The light is shown in screenshot 2... alternatively you can load a couple of them (or with instances) into the scene, and hang them on the ceiling of the 1st floor if you'd like to...

You can go to Tonemapper options and lower the exposure value to bring up all the lighting.

  • Thanks crosswind I will place the files you created into the respective folder.

You are right, this is the joob of the vendor, He or She should have paid more attention to refine the product.

Other clothing items I have used, has some options via Shaping tab, this is good instead of going to the Object, Push Modifier

The days are going fast! I have to finish my project before Christmas time comes.

I started around August this year, assembling the things needed, doing and undoing the composition.

Looking for extra items in the store that can do a better job.

I thought I might add that Hexagon BETA (64bit) is free, and fairly easy to learn. DAZ Studio has a bridge for Hexagon to move the models back and forth betwen the two applications. While I wouldn't say it's as good as Blender (it's not even close to Blender), it is fairly easy to learn (a lot of tutorials here and on YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLF3LSR7D48Me0rix6kdS5BL5ZycpNxA71).

DzFire used to model all of his products using Hexagon (he may still be using it), so it's definitely capable of professional work. Learning Blender would probably be the option with more room for growth, but for quick and easy edits for free Hexagon is a pretty nice tool that integrates with DS.

Oh, and here is a quick tutorial on setting up and using Hexagon with DS https://youtu.be/pqrdLniEjos?si=tUmdphC9es6y7Y60

  • DustRider I have fond memories when I started using Daz Studio.

SofaCitizen has gained much better experience than me.

You came to the other thread to give your opinion.

I must say, many of the folsk here I interacted with are great, by taking the time to share the experiences with the program and provide solutions.

I believe this forum offers an invaluable one stop place to find the answers to any issue the user may find.

To all of you, thank you very much. smiley
