I'm trying to make an air elemental type person. The old http://www.daz3d.com/air-giants-genies is a start, but hasn't really kept up with modern figures and IRAY. Having the translucency is important, but my attempts so far have ended up more like jello than clouds. I'd prefer it for G2F, but could work with G3F.

Seconded. Your best bet might be to go with: https://www.daz3d.com/sf-auras-genesis-8-female then edit the texture maps, if that's possible. I really wish there were more "lines of force" wind props out there. I tried using the tornado prop, shrinking it waaaay down, and putting it around my transparent figure, but it was too large and becomes pretty much solid when shrunk that small. Sorry to bump an old thread, but I figured I'd mention my thoughts in case you were still working on this. Really, from my perspective, the best thing would be elemental shaders--earth, air, fire, water, maybe electricity, that you can put on any figure or object.
You could try my product: https://www.daz3d.com/oso-master-shader1-for-iray
Among many other things, there are smoke and cloud presets that you can play with.
For example (pardon backdrop, it's a quickie):
Oooh, thanks!
