AMD or Intel
I'm planning to build a new PC mostly for Daz (and Blender and a bit of Vue)
As I understand, DazStudio is mostly single threaded oriented for DForce and so on. The latest Intel i9 CPU seems to be disappointing. Is it worth changing my old habits buying Intel ?
My current CPU is an i9-7920X. As for the GPU, I'm using a dual 2080 tx 8 Gb Nvidia. Unfortunately, the price of the 40 or even 50 are out of my power purchase ATM.
Thanks

golem841 Building your own computer will cost you more.
Is better to wait until there are some deals and get a reputable computer dealer to build your dream machine, according to your requirements.
Now about the processor, many computer dealers prefer Intel over AMD.
Because of better tech, if you want to save some money, you may opt for the later.
You decide what you really want.
With the Video card, Nvidia series 30 maybe your best bet, if tighten your budget.
Otherwise, wait when series 40 is a better price.
Hard disk, opt for 10 Tb or more, mechanical HDD as secondary storage.
The primary storage for the OS and applications must be an internal NVMe SSD, 2 Tb or more.
RAM 32 GB or 64 GB, 4 modules set if motherboard has 4 slots available.
Computer case, with tempered glass side panel, choose any brand you like most.
Same goes for the cooling, CPU and case fans.
Power Supply Unit, 800 Watt minimum, opt for 1000 Watts.
I wish you good luck!
Edit: your computer will need an Operating System, if you need Windows 11 choose the Pro Version (DVD or USB) 64-bit
I'm thinking of changing my hardware : first off, to be able to install win 11 pro.
I'm pondering about CPU's : for DazStudio mostly : are the newer AMD better than the Intel equivalents ?
Beside some snafus concerning overvoltage, the I9 are a mix of efficient and performance cores. As I understand Dforce, and many other functionalities, are single core oriented.
Very long ago I used AMD CPUs, they were sub-par compared to Intel's. Since then, stuck to Intel : maybe it's time to change.
As for the GPU, I will probably keep my dual 2080 Tx, the latest iteration from Nvidia are way too costly and too power hungry for me ATM. I'll see in the next months if there are some good bargains. I'm not using any games (apart from Daz), so Dlss etc is of no use. Here in France a 4090 with 24 Gb is costing at least 3000 euros.
AMD make awesome CPU. More bang for your buck. Just be sure to check single core speed along with how many cores it has. A lot of things still have single cores doing things, so having a 12 core CPU, that doesn't also have decent single core speed you could see slowdowns in some areas.
As for daz studio specifically, when I upgraded to my new 12 core ryzen, that also had faster single core performance than the older one, the biggest gains were in viewport responsiveness. I used to get a weird lag when 2 or more figures were in the scene. Like I grab a slider, the whole viewport would freeze for a few seconds, then move in realtime once it caught up.
I do not get that at all anymore. I even stress tested it by adding more and more seperate character sets into a scene. Daz crashed comepletely before I saw any viewport lag at all, when I loaded in the 51st character into the scene.
Threads merged.
golem841 3000 euros for an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090?!
That's a lot of money!
You do not need a super expensive hardware gear.
What you need is an average good set of hardware components, these form the basis of a computer build.
If you want bang for your money, then head to a reputable computer publication website and get the facts.
