How can i cast accurate shadows and lighting on a figure?

Im a comic book artist and i use this program to acurately draw my characters' when they are in a tricky pose. However, the default figure does not have realistic lighting or shadows on it body. How can I use thi program to add light sources so i can edit the way light hits the figure and so i can reference realistic shadows?

I'm not clear on what you're asking?  Are you rendering in Iray or 3delight (or are yoy just looking at the viewport)?

    Thats a neat feature. Thanks

The viewport is rendered using OpenGL which has limited abilities.  For accurate lighting you'll probably want to render using Iray.

  • to clarify i want to edit the shadows on the figure.

  • THANK YOU

In what way?  If you want to setup and rearrange lights to get realistic shadows, your best bet (if your computer is capable of it) would be to use the AUX viewport in Iray mode to set up the scene, then render in Iray to get accurate shadows.

  • Turn the camera light off, after adding a camera, or add any light-source into the scene. That will turn the "AUTO LIGHT" off.

Without a camera, there is a "viewport light" which can not be turned off, except when any other light is present.

I also suggest using the "dzToonSkin" shader. (Select a material or model. Goto "Presets" and find "dzToonSkin". Click to apply.)

Adjust to taste... (Note the "Viewport" will NOT reflect the true rendering for 3DeLight. You have to actually render it, to see the changes. The viewport, like with iray, is just a guide. (I suggest using a directional light only. About 50% to 75% intensity. You can rotate it and the position does not matter at all. It is a full world light.)
