[Solved] DIM products don't show up anymore?

Hi gang,

Edit: Using Daz Studio 4.9, 32bit with the PostgreSQL CMS.

So I went over the Shop today and noticed several freebies, amongst which the Zombie Graveyard Bundle as well as the City Bus Stop. I'm actually quite excited about both of them because I can already imagine some nice sceneries, especially the zombie graveyard (this contains The Graveyard, which is really an awesome set to play with. IF you're into this stuff of course).

The installation went smoothly using the Daz Install Manager (DIM):

However, when I fire up Daz Studio 4.9 ("DS") this product doesn't show up in my smart contents pane. Going over the product list in the Content Library pane shows me that Daz Connect wants me to install this. Why? It is already installed, which is clearly shown here:

And here is the actual (usable!) product:

When checking out the assigned category this turns out to be \Default\Props\Cityscape, but when I look in that category nothing shows up. So then I checked the product itself and I discovered that if I try to change the items meta-data then it fails. Right now !Crypt is marked as a set, so if I right click the content pane tab, select "Content DB Editor..." and then click on this file I can change its type. Or so I thought... No matter what I do: if I change the 'set' type into something else, or even "none", then nothing changes. The type remains fixed to 'set' and this set does not show up in my smart contents pane, even though it should.

At first I considered the option of this to be a bug (or glitch) within DS. So I tried doing the same thing to other products; first being Heligator (one of the first things I bougt for DS) as well as Genesis itself. I can easily change Genesis from an Actor into a Prop (with apologies to Genesis ;)) but whenever I try to change these two latest products my attempts fail.

As seen above: Genesis is now a Prop, no problems at all.

And here is the reason for my cynical concerns: As soon as I install those two products using Daz Connect then they show up in the smart content pane without any issues, something I more or less started to expect.

So what is going on here?

At this point I'm willing to assume that I'm facing a weird glitch but you got to admit that not being able to edit the products meta data anymore seems very peculiar here. Especially because Daz Connect works without a charm.

Surely this isn't some cheap scheme to trick or force us into using Daz Connect? I mean: if you claim that the product is available through DIM then surely it should also be available as such. Otherwise don't advertise it as a "DIM installable product".

Anyone got an idea?

  • Items should show up as avaialble to be installed because they aren't installed by Connect, but as you've found that doesn't stop them from working. However you should still see the individual fiel icons in the products list so something odd is going on there. To what folder is DIM pointing, and is it listed as a DAZ Studio format directory in DS?

In general you isntall you are not meant to be able to edit Vendor data, but you can add the items to your own categories.

Yes, that part is covered. I am using folders other than the default ('d:\media\DAZ 3D Library' and 'd:\media\DAZ Connect Library') but both the DIM as well as DS itself are correctly using these.

That's what I figured, yes. I can change the categories of these two product without any problem, but even though they have all the required meta data assigned they're still not showing up in the smart contents pane when I install them using the DIM. Only when using DAZ Connect does this work.

    Its really puzzling.

Still, the more I look into this the more convinced do I get that this must be a freak glitch somehow. There are a few things I'm going to try later (after I made a CMS backup) and if that still doesn't work I guess I should ask support.

    Thanks for your comment!

This has actually helped me out a lot (no joking!). I've had some issues with the database in the past where the DIM didn't recognize my available products anymore which turned out to be related to me having removed c:\users\public\documents\daz 3d\InstallManager, that has resolved itself in the mean time but when re-reading your comment I couldn't help think that it might still somehow be related to a glitch in my library.

Alas: I used the "Content DB Maintenance" option and used these selections:

    • Remove orphaned file references
    • Consolidate File references
    • Re-Import Metadata

The result, as shown in the subject, is that all those weird products are now recognized. From Graveyard to the Genesis Bikini. So it was a glitch afterall. Thanks for your time to look into this, as said it has actually helped me out a lot!

  • Glad you were able to resolve it, even if my help seems to have been "in off" rather than directly useful :)
