Why are my eyes gray?

Or grey, depending on which side of the pond you're on.

Shouldn't the eyeball extend all the way to the edges of the eye? Why am I getting this grey area around the eyeball?

For the record, this is G3F and iRay. Tested both base V7 eyes and DA Hyperreal eyes and getting the same effect on both.

For that matter, why are the eyes themselves seem to have a grey film over them?

Which renderer are the materials for? And which version of Studio?

If I remember, there were two sets for V7...

And an oddity...with the eyes, at least, is that sometimes the 3DL materials are 'better'.  It seems the automatic, on the fly conversion works better than the true Iray preset (especially with some pre-4.9 presets).

Both tests were iRay under 4.8.

I tested using the 3DL materials for all the eye surfaces and no improvement.

  • Okay, I think I figured out the issue, but haven't figured out how to fix it.

I had adjusted my character's head's Scale to 105%. If I change the eye Scale back to 100%, it renders correctly (well, at least without the gray borders - they still don't look great but that's a seperate issue).

However, I kind of want the character's head to remain at 105%. So, I went into Photoshop and just scaled up my eye maps by 5% and replaced them in the Surfaces tab. However, this does not correct the issue. Is there some other dial I should be fiddling with to scale my maps correctly?

How are you scaling up the head?

Just using Scale functionality under Parameters>Transforms

Don't scale the head that way...it just scales the 'skull', not the eyes or mouth parts.

Instead, in Parameters > Actor > Head > Real World is a Head Propagating Scale (also the same location in the Shaping tab)...use that.  It will scale all the parts of the head, together.

  • Okay, it looks like I mispoke, as Head Propagation Scale is at 5%. This makes sense, as I haven't had any issues with teeth/eyes being out of scale since increasing the head scale.

However, my eyes still look like this:

(I don't know where the caruncle went either. It was there before I started messing with the scale.)
