"If you are looking for a critter with lot of personality, you can't miss the Tasmanian Devil, the world's largest carnivorous marsupial, accurately recreated as a 3D model for your renders! Rigging has been extended to single toes and fingers in order to provide the best posing, and several morphs allow to finely tune and modify some anatomic details."

  • Yesterday I made also a very quick wallaby carcass that you may want to use in your scene, available as a freebie here: http://www.alessandromastronardi.com/downloads/wallabyCarcass.zip

I packed it as a .OBJ plus textures; you can simply import it in DAZ Studio (or other 3D apps), textures will load automatically.

  • Looks great, AM.  I have to wait until the first, but then he is definitely in my cart!  There are times when I really hate waiting.  When your furries come out and I have to wait, is one of them.  Love the promos above!

This one went straight into the cart.  I'm going to install it on Friday and let in run amok around my runtime on Saturday.

    Cheers,

    Alex.

This is an amazing model of the Tassie Devil, feeling a little homesick now!

May I ask what forest scene was used to create the two sleeping devils? And, will it need to be rendered in 3Delight to get the hair to show, or is LAMH now working normally in iRay?

  • Spread the Tasmanian Devil love!! Love the little psychos!! Protect the species!! :D

Fantastic job on this, Alessandro! You're amazing!! Can't wait to see what you do next!!

Hello, I feared that could be the case: I'd like that DAZ Studio would generate compliant morphs with Carrara. To make it work I'd have to make a Poser .cr2 figure, manually edit the .cr2 to change some code lines that make the morph work with Carrara, pack it and upload it. I'll see to do it as I get some time.

Hi, that image was done by Shozai, I honestly don't know what forest items she used. As we speak, I've sent her a link to this thread so that she may answer to you.

About the hair, there is no direct support for Iray, meaning that you first have to use LAMH to convert to OBJ (or Fiberhair if you have the full version) and then you can render to Iray.
I made a brief tutorial about this procedure here:

I've used the Wolf model but the same method applies to every LAMH based character. It's a very simple process IMO.

Many thanks! I do have lot of critters currently under development. I usually post updates on my FB art page: https://www.facebook.com/alessandromastronardi.wildlifeartist
Since not everybody use FB, I was thinking to open a thread over here where to post my work in progress stuff, but I'm not sure which forum would be the most appropriate.

    Fantastic, thanks Shozai!

Alesssandro, love your animals series! Out of curiosity, your great white shark/megalodon, any chance you're working on iRay textures, or new models of sharks? I love the original ones, and use them so often. Any chance of a modern croc too? I'd love to sink one below the surface of your tropical ponds, ready to sneak upon unsuspecting warthogs! I will check out the LAMH tutorial, I  still need time for rendering the wolf, koala and kangaroo at some point in my future renders, grabbed them at their launch, such awesome figures.

I have a set of sharks under development: one is a remake of the great white you mentioned, with better details and morphs, then also a hammerhead, a whale shark and a basking shark (attached a test render I did of the basking shark). The crocs... mmmhhh well the ones available IMO are still quite modern, they also come with 8K textures and are pretty much detailed, if these are the one we are talking about:

Here some renders I did with those...

Yes I have the Gharial and Crocodile ones, both poses and morphs for those are wonderful. I was hoping for some iRay textures, to best capture the new lighting systems and show the character models as a little less plastic.

However, I am so excited to hear the great white is up for updating. May I request clasper morphs, remora's, scarring options, fin nicks, cuts, bites, and copepods along the mouth, eyes, and fins? A sagging morph for the jaw, belly, gill vents, stomach, and a pregnancy morph for the female would be awesome! And even a texture that shows the dappling of light from the sun glinting through the water! So excited for the other sharks as well, hammerheads, whale sharks, and basking sharks are all so beautiful!

I know, I ask alot, I just love sharks so much, and your work on the Great White and Megalodon filled my render cycles for months.

Also, I want to thank you for representing the Australian fauna, kangaroo, koala, Tassie Devil, and Thylacine, and the Indigenous people in the Gurumarra by you and LMX3D. Such great additions to the 3D market, while niche, they are appreciated!

Thanks for the details you asked, actually I like to receive this kind of feedback!

I see what you mean, with the default IRay shader they indeed look glossy. I'll see to update the model for Iray, good catch.

A wip thread sounds like a great idea, Alessandro. I  would suggest putting it in either this forum or the commons.

    Cheers,

    Alex.
